Jannik Sinner is a fair-skinned redhead — this is simply the hand he has been dealt in life.

Sinner found himself in a physical battle with the elements today, as cramps and the extreme conditions took a visible toll on his third-round performance.

In his post-match press conference, the Italian was asked whether his struggles in the heat are a hurdle he is naturally destined to face forever, or if it is a physical gap he can eventually close through training and acclimatisation.

“I mean, we don’t know, you know,” Sinner said.

“As I said before the tournament, you know, physically I feel good, mentally also, and the only thing, you know, at times you can do is to, to fight, you know, and let’s see.

“For sure, it’s an area where I would love to improve and, you know, there is a reason why I go to the gym every day and try to get better, but at the same time, you know, every player has their own small problems, and maybe this is mine, you know, you don’t know.

“For sure, there is room to improve, which I’m quite sure we will do everything possible to improve in a positive way, and then we’ll see how it goes.”
