⁴ᴷ Okayama: Okayama Station (岡山県: 岡山駅) – Japan Walking Tour (January, 2026)
I’ve decided to take an off-season trip back to my hometown in Kobe, using it as a starting point for a journey all the way around Shikoku. Traveling from Aichi through Shiga, Kyoto, and Hyogo, I’ve now made my way further west to explore the area around Okayama Station.
Even for a Thursday night, the dining district near the station is bustling with people. As I continued my walk toward the Omotecho entertainment district, I noticed something interesting: women from the local nightlife spots walking through the streets, mostly in pairs. It seems they’re out doing promotional rounds.
While it’s common in some cities for staff to call out to customers from right in front of their shops, I wonder if local regulations in Okayama make this “on-the-move” style the norm. It’s fascinating to see how the “nightlife business” adapts and takes on a different character in every city.
