OSAKA — A fire was reported on the morning of Jan. 9 in a shopping district near a popular tourist attraction in this west Japan city.
A passerby made an emergency call around 10:40 a.m. to report smoke billowing from a three-story shop building in Osaka’s Naniwa Ward, about 200 meters south of Ebisucho Station near the famous Tsutenkaku Tower. The area was thrown into chaos among residents and tourists as fire alarms rang.
According to the Osaka Fire Department, some 30 fire trucks and other vehicles were dispatched to fight the blaze, with all employees inside the building when the fire broke out evacuating safely. Police are assisting fire fighters in checking for injuries and anyone left behind.
