奥蓼科温泉郷にある横谷渓谷（横谷峡）は、松川渓谷と並ぶ信州随一の紅葉の名所です。八ヶ岳連峰の中央部にある麦草峠を分水嶺して西側に向かって流れる渋川にあります。その中でも、乙女滝・霧降の滝・王滝・おしどり隠しの滝のある約3kmにおよぶ範囲を、横谷渓谷と称し、多くの人が訪れます。川に沿って、四つの滝を巡る遊歩道が整備されており、初夏の新緑と秋の紅葉、そして冬の氷瀑が折々に表情を変え、多くの人々を引き付けます。また、横谷観音からは横谷渓谷の中で一番落差が大きい王滝を見ることができます。沿線には、温泉が散在し有名な御射鹿池もあります。
