Sukayu is situated on Mt. Hakkoda in Aomori Prefecture and is recognized as the snowiest place in Japan that is accessible by car year-round.
During winter, the northwest monsoon, which originates from Eurasia, gathers significant moisture as it crosses the Sea of Japan.
It then hits Mt. Hakkoda, resulting in substantial snowfall.
This drive takes you from Kuroishi City to Sukayu Hot Spring through Route 102 and 394.
It gets snowy as we ascend to Sukayu.
The snow gets heavier on the way back.
