Beyond Kyoto’s City Center – Exploring a Quaint Japanese Seaside Village #lne #cycling #travel
Welcome to Ine, the other side of Kyoto. With under 2,000 residents, life in Ine still moves in harmony with the ocean. Here, unique “funaya” – wooden boathouses that serve as both docks and homes – stretch along the bay, creating a scenery unlike anywhere else in Japan. ⛵
Our guide shared fascinating stories about the village’s history and local culture 📜. With her leading the way, riding the e-bikes made it easy to explore the entire village and discover hidden spots we’d have missed on our own, including the interiors of some funaya only accessible on a guided tour 👀.
After the guided portion, we wandered at our own pace, feeling the sea breeze 🌬️ and taking in scenic lanes and stunning views 🌅. With cozy cafes, local restaurants, and sightseeing boats to feed the seagulls, there are endless ways to enjoy a relaxing day – or two! – in beautiful Ine.
