
The Japan Sumo Association has officially announced a new collaborative merchandise line featuring the popular Sanrio Characters.
This unique collection merges the traditional world of Grand Sumo with the “kawaii” aesthetic of Sanrio’s mascots.

The collaboration features four of Sanrio’s most popular characters: Hello Kitty, Kuromi, Pompompurin, and Cinnamoroll.
Each character is illustrated wearing traditional sumo attire, such as the costumes for the “Gyoji” (referee) or the “Yobidashi” (announcer).

Some characters are also depicted as sumo wrestlers wearing the ceremonial “Kesho-mawashi” aprons.
A distinct feature of this collection is the use of “Sumo-ji,” a specialized calligraphy style used for writing the sumo rankings.

This lettering is incorporated into the design of each item to provide an authentic atmosphere.
The full lineup of merchandise includes a variety of daily use items and collectibles.
The specific items and their prices are as follows:
Hand Towel: 880 yen (approx. $6.00 USD / £4.50 GBP)

Face Towel: 1,650 yen (approx. $11.00 USD / £8.50 GBP)

Bath Towel: 2,310 yen (approx. $16.00 USD / £12.00 GBP)

Drawstring Bag: 1,100 yen (approx. $7.50 USD / £5.50 GBP)


Die-cut Cushion: 2,310 yen each (approx. $16.00 USD / £12.00 GBP)








Kesho-mawashi Style Apron: 1,980 yen each (approx. $13.50 USD / £10.50 GBP)

Sales will begin online at the official “SuMALL” website on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 17:00 JST.
The items will also be available physically at the “Oyakata Shop SuMALL” inside the tournament venue from January 11 through January 25, 2026.
Access to the physical shop during the January Tournament requires a valid ticket for entry.
