Mario Kart World has been topping the sales charts around the world, but the game is really killing it in Japan. Nothing has been able to dethrone the game from the #1 spot on the sales charts in Japan, and now we’re seeing just how much of a dent it has made. (h/t Stealth40k)
The latest sales figures reveal that Mario Kart World has sold a whopping 2.5 million units in Japan alone. That is enough to make it the fastest-selling Mario Kart game in Japan ever, and it managed to achieve that record in just 29 weeks. To put that into perspective, the previous record-holder was Mario Kart Wii, and that hit 2.5 million sold in Japan in 89 weeks.
As you’ve probably guessed, these sales in Japan factor in the copies of Mario Kart World sold with the Switch 2 bundle. While we don’t have the most up-to-date figures, we do know that 84% of all Switch 2 units sold in Japan in September were the Mario Kart World bundle. In other words, it’s very likely the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle continues to do some serious heavy lifting, but a copy sold is still a copy sold!
