Tajikistan and Japan have moved to deepen their long-standing partnership as President Emomali Rahmon held high-level talks in Tokyo, meeting with Emperor Naruhito of Japan to discuss the future of bilateral relations.

The talks focused on a wide range of cooperation areas, including trade and economic ties, cultural exchange, and humanitarian collaboration, reflecting the growing scope of interaction between the two countries, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

President Rahmon highlighted Japan’s continued support for small and medium-sized projects in key sectors such as infrastructure, transport, energy, agriculture, and environmental protection. He also praised Japan’s contributions to human resource development, healthcare, and sanitation, noting their importance for Tajikistan’s sustainable development.

On the same day, the Tajik leader met with Taro Aso, Deputy Leader of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party and former prime minister. The meeting addressed the expansion of bilateral cooperation and the role of the “Central Asia + Japan” Dialogue as a platform for strengthening regional and bilateral ties.

During the talks, President Rahmon commended Taro Aso’s personal contribution to advancing Tajik-Japanese relations and acknowledged Japan’s role in implementing major projects in infrastructure, water supply, healthcare, energy capacity building, and training of specialists in Tajikistan.

Both meetings featured a constructive exchange of views on issues of mutual interest, underscoring the shared commitment of Tajikistan and Japan to further develop their strategic partnership.
