Kagiyama Yuma is set to compete at his second Olympic Winter Games* after defending the men’s title at the Japan Figure Skating Championships 2025 on Saturday (20 December).

Kagiyama was far from his best in the free skate, finishing behind Sato Shun on the night, but his strong short program gave him enough of a cushion to win overall, 287.95 to 276.75, and secure the sole automatic men’s berth for the Games in February.

Placing third was Miura Kao on 261.18.

*As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Winter Games, athletes’ participation at Milano Cortina 2026 depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at the Games.
