HOKKAIDO (TR) – A teenage boy in Hakodate City spotted a man with wooden sword on Thursday. The man could have been behind an attack that resulted in injuries to an elderly woman at a temple about one week before, police said, reports TV Asahi (Dec. 19).

On Thursday night, the teenager entered a park facility to use the restroom when he spotted a man dressed in all black sitting in a chair, fiddling with his mobile phone.

According to the youth, he was about 40 years old and carrying what appeared to be a wooden sword.

The incident at the temple, located about 400 meters from the restroom, took place on December 7. On that day, police received a report from a witness, “A person is collapsed and bleeding.”

In the incident, an unknown assailant struck the 76-year-old woman in the head with what appeared to be a wooden sword. The assailant also ransacked the temple.

The perpetrator, who may be the same person spotted by the boy, remains on the run. Police are searching for him on suspicion of robbery and assault.
