What to do in Kagoshima Japan π―π΅π―
Here’s everything that I did in Kagoshima, Japan. Kagoshima is a volcanic town located in the south of the country and is famous for being the burial site of the last Japanese samurai, Saigo Takamorei. We started out by visiting the Sudumu Castle, which was built in the 1600s by the Shimatu clan. And then we decided to follow the path to see some of the more important places related to the last samurai’s life and death. On this path, you can see some really cool places and information related to his last battle and the history that took place at the time. After this, we head out onto our path to get to a really beautiful lookout point of all of Kagoshima. I definitely recommend that you also check this out. You can see the whole city from here as well as the most active volcano of Japan. However, probably my favorite thing I did this entire day was check out the Shimatu Residence. Yes, the floor was really loud. This is a traditional mansion built in the mid7th century and has been absolutely beautifully preserved. The residence is designed in classic samurai villa style and truly is a peak into how life was lived back in that time. The residence also sits within the Sangan Gardens which is a huge estate decorated with ponds, shrines, and bamboo groves. After checking out all of the villa and everything that it had to offer, we decided next to take a ferry over to see the most active volcano of all of Japan, Sakurajima, also known as the Cherry Blossom Island. I’ve definitely enjoyed my day in Kagoshima and recommend that you check it out if you’re planning a trip to Japan soon.
