⁴ᴷ Okayama: Kuse Station (岡山県: 久世駅) – Japan Walking Tour (December, 2025)

Walking in Maniwa, Okayama: A Quiet Mountain Town at Night

Although I originally wanted to head toward the Tohoku region, recent news about bears made me change my plans and travel west instead. My final destination on this journey is Okayama Prefecture.

After passing through Kyoto and Hyogo, I arrived in Maniwa City, located in the mountainous northern part of Okayama Prefecture rather than along the Seto Inland Sea. I had visited here once before during the daytime, but this time I walked around after sunset.

Maniwa is served by the JR Kishin Line, which runs between Himeji and Niimi. The station has a history of more than 100 years, and although the building may not be original, it still retains the atmosphere of an old local station.

A short walk from the station leads to a charming covered shopping arcade. In the video, I talk with local residents and learn that several traditional inns are still operating in the area. Many of their guests seem to be construction workers from nearby projects. It feels quite rare to find a small town where multiple inns are still actively running, and that made the place especially memorable.
