LONDON – Japan international Daichi Kamada will miss at least eight to 10 weeks after injuring his right hamstring playing for Crystal Palace in the English Premier League, club manager Oliver Glasner said Wednesday.

The 29-year-old midfielder limped off midway through the second half of Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City.

Speaking ahead of Palace’s Conference League clash with Finnish outfit KuPS, Glasner confirmed Kamada faces a lengthy stretch on the sidelines.

“It’s a serious hamstring injury, and he will be out for at least eight to 10 weeks,” said Glasner, as reported by the club’s official site.

The Austrian tactician said it was “not a normal muscle injury” and had resulted from an awkward landing.

“It was just an incident with his landing and body position — he overstretched everything, the full weight on the front,” Glasner said. “He usually never has muscle injuries, but unfortunately it’s part of our game.”

Kamada, who joined Crystal Palace on a free transfer last season, has been an important player for the London club during the current campaign.

He is also expected to play a key role for the Japanese national team at the World Cup, kicking off next June in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
