Japan’s secret festivals (Kagoshima day 3)

[Music] Down. [Music] Heat. [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Oh, look. It’s the last JR stop. Nishi Oyama. [Music] This is literally literally the southernmost spot you can possibly be on Japan train line. And that right there is the southernmost JP post mailbox. We are on our way to get a little mango icy as far as I can tell. And uh it’s at this store which is right next to the station. This is a pretty famous mango ice cream. So I’m going to enjoy myself dectibly. Here it is. Little mango ice cream. Let’s see if we can get one. [Music] 10 minutes and then I can buy. Okay, perfect. Thank you. [Music] Can you even believe this? It might be bigger than my head. You think? My mother, who’s allergic to mangoes, is probably crying right now. [Music] Oh my god. This is truly what I came here for. This is what makes the trip worthwhile. things like this, small things, having the having the conversation with the lady. Um, and just like, you know, laughing and smiling that this is all about connecting people and cultures. Um, and honestly trying new foods cuz I’m a huge foodie. I’m sorry I’m cut out of the frame. What a great, you know, start to the journey, the journey across Japan. [Music] [Applause] And so the journey begins. [Music] Start off in very nice little gate going on there. I have no idea. Anyway, we’re here to find the foot bath. Watch me. Watch me find it. [Music] Currently walking through Ibosi to the shoreline. It’s pretty cool. Super rural, but hopefully I’ll find the beach pretty soon. We’re almost there. About 10 minutes away. But I’m walking down like a pretty big road. Look at these trees. These are like total tropical trees, which I think kind of makes sense given that the climate here is pretty much like subtropical. Um, old firefly flying in front of me. Um, but I believe we’re on our way. It might be to that building right there. Um, I think it is. Should be a massive bath house. [Music] I must be literally the only foreigner to be on this road ever. I’m in Ibuski overlooking the coast. Quite frankly, I may be the only one who’s who’s ever done it. I don’t quite know the whole logistics of it all, but um I’m here and uh it’s very very very tranquil. Hopefully they can find some I can find some more people. Um everything doesn’t just look like a construction zone. Okay, here we go. Sorry to say, I couldn’t record anything. Um, but I just did the sand bath. I changed, by the way. My pants turned into shorts and my shirt turned into a shirt with shorter sleeves. I got my quir sparkly. The sandbag was incredible. And now it turns out I’m very lucky. I get to go to the Hebrews festival that is happening right now. So, I’ve got 20 minutes to get there and it starts in about 30 minutes. So, good timing. [Music] This southern city and quite small known for the sand baths. And in the distance, I can hear baby shark. Don’t know how to feel about that. Truly, no place is sacred, that’s for sure. Uh, I think I managed to capture like a little festival just by accident in Ibuski. This is pretty cool. [Music] Wait, what? All right. Um, what the heck is this? What the heck is this? What the heck is this? Oh my god. [Music] Uh there’s a festival going on. I just so happen to be here. There’s a dude with his his cheeks out. I love that. He’s got half his clothes on. Oh my god. [Music] [Music] I met the most wonderful couple. They were really nice. We had a great conversation and good jokes as well. Um, but they just left and I thought it’s time for me to leave and it just so happens the perfect time is to go to the train station to leave. So, well timed, I guess. Um, all right. Here I go. It’s finishing up right now. Catch you on the other side. Oh, they said I was handsome, by the way. They’re lying. Nice try. [Music]

In this vlog I head to the famous southern-most JR train station and the volcanic sand baths in Ibuski! I also run into a surprise festival which I spend the rest of my evening enjoying. I also make some Japanese friends!

Kagoshima, the town made famous by its neighboring volcano Sakurajima, it’s beautiful weather, and the surrounding nature. It also is a city with a rich cultural heritage.
