PHOENIX — Edo Japanese Grill opened its second Valley location at Scottsdale Fashion Square on Tuesday.

The restaurant is located in the mall’s central gathering area and food court called Palm Court, which is set to get a facelift next year.

The restaurant serves Japanese-inspired teppanyaki meals, which it claims are made fresh to order and served with its signature teriyaki sauce.

Edo Japanese Grill is the U.S. extension of Edo Japan, a Canadian quick-service restaurant chain that opened in Calgary, Alberta in 1979.

“Our entry into Arizona, and Scottsdale Fashion Square mall in particular, represents an important next step in our U.S. growth plan,” Greg Vogeli, Vice President of Business Development and Corporate Affairs for Edo Japanese Grill, said in announcement. “This location gives us a flagship presence in one of the country’s most dynamic retail trade areas, allowing us to validate our concept with U.S. guests.”

“As we grow in Arizona, we are committed to partnering with local franchisees and suppliers who share our values and can help us build a strong foundation in the market. This marks the beginning of a focused, disciplined approach to identifying the right opportunities for our brand in the United States.”

The eatery’s menu options include bento boxes, teriyaki bowls, poke bowls, noodle meals, hand-rolled sushi and boba.

Edo Japanese Grill’s lease at the 1.9-million-square-foot mall, which is located off of Scottsdale and Camelback roads, was negotiated by Western Retail Advisors.

“Arizona has become an exceedingly popular proving ground for regional, national and even international restaurant brands,” Western Retail Advisors broker Alberto Caballero said. “Scottsdale Fashion Square represents an exciting flagship location for Edo, allowing it to track performance and gather the kind of data and visibility that will directly shape its U.S. growth strategy.”

Edo Japanese Grill’s first Valley location opened in the Chandler Festival shopping center in March. It is expected to open its third location within The Gilmore, a 36-acre mixed use project, in Gilbert in late 2026.

Edo Japan has 200 locations throughout Canada that serve more than 12 million meals annually.
