The Forgotten Mansion of Two Cinema Brothers Who Lost Everything
Once built for the noble class, this
Spanish palace was meant to last forever. Today, we wander through its empty halls. A palace once alive, now silent. But one discovery would turn that silence
into disbelief. No freaking way! Those are the ashes of the actual owner. So, we’re starting over here at one of the
main doors. And if we look, we have these glass windows
and doors leading us to the main hallway. — And as you can tell over here, we immediately have… it seems like a family coat of arms,
but these are definitely very royal seats. — The family coat of arms is carved in
the wood of these chairs. It has a knight, it has swords. And if we look at the wood over here, you can
clearly tell it’s been quite badly decaying. — I don’t know what this actually is. — That’s a good question, but I think they
used to put some things up here maybe some hats or something, before going
inside the house. We’ve got some shutters here as well. And holy Mary. I shouldn’t forget to also
point upwards. You can see all the wooden beams on the ceiling. The peeling paint between it and this huge
rusty lamp. — Yeah. And then, immediately from the main hallway,
well, the main entrance… we come into this office area. This is for administration over here,
you can tell that. — An “Underwood” typewriter over here. A beautiful bookshelf, actually. There are also some tiny bullets over there. — Oh, yeah. — I think that this is still filled with
binoculars. It isn’t. — It’s not anymore. — Glasses. — Yeah. Again, more books? Yeah. — Oh, and also some very old pictures. — I do think these are just random people, man. — I think celebrities, maybe. — Yeah… they are. — Oh, look at all these flags. I think it’s actually from… I believe
it’s a basketball club. — Yep. Well, we have this tennis trophy on top. 1978. — There’s also a book over here. A religious print over there on the wall. These are archives, but… they’re all locked. — Yeah, they are locked. Yeah, they are locked. Wow, look, this is cool: the lighters. Yeah, I don’t know how to- — I was actually more fascinated by
this over here. “Cartilla Militar de Tropa”
(Military Troop Booklet) It’s a little book. It looks like it’s a document. — Yeah, from a person. — What’s the name? It’s from 1956. — Juan… — José Luis. — Oh, José Luis, alright. Yeah, as you can tell, 1964. 1964, damn…
That’s a long time ago, man. — This small booklet is a “cartilla militar”. A military booklet showing that José Luis
first enlisted in 1956, when he was only
18 or 19 years old. Every young man in Spain received this
document for compulsory military service. At that time in Spain, military service
didn’t end after the first year. Men were required to keep this booklet
updated for years, confirming their address, their fitness for mobilization,
and even reserve status. The second 1964 stamp tells us he was
still fulfilling those obligations 8 year later. Now in his mid-twenties,
already stepping into adult life. It’s a small detail, but it gives us our first solid timeline
of the people who lived here. A younger generation still tied to this palace
well into the mid-twentieth century. And as we move further inside, more of
their story will begin to surface. — An old picture of a dog. — Over here, in this frame,
you can see a bullfighter. Have a look at this wonderful
wooden office seat. — Yeah, it’s very unique. — Such intricate carvings. “Fidel”, we find over here. Fidel was the older brother of José Luis. And this visit logbook from 1983 reveals that
he was working in the world of cinema. It turns out that together with his brother, he was running an official cinema
establishment in the region. And as we keep exploring this palace… the story behind their cinema business
will take an unexpected turn. — Well, alright, then… — Oh, by the way, have you seen this? — Yeah. — Haha, crazy. — But, okay, here we are in the main room. — And this is such a spacious room. — A beautiful painting. — And have you seen all the tiles on the
ground? — Very well detailed, right? — We’ve got a lot of frames over here on the wall. — Yeah, all from the area. Beautiful. — Sunset over here. Also, have a look on top. — Yeah. Alright, and what is over here
on the table, man? There is a lot. Oh, that’s a name. — You see? Fidel. What I’ve also just seen. — Yeah. — So, that must’ve been the owner. Oh, look at this. “Te queiro, mama”. I love you, mom. All these tiny porcelain figurines over here, and this one even still has a tiny picture inside. — And right next to it… This beautiful hat. — Probably of a woman. Oh, look at this! — Family pictures. — Plenty of them. — It was probably once in the area. — Definitely in the mountainous region of
Spain. — Yeah. — A nice vacation that they went on. — It looks very cozy. What year is this from? Ah, you can’t see that. — Let’s see who’s in the pictures. It looks like they had two daughters. — Here is a complete family picture. — They probably made a lot of trips. — Yeah, they did. — They just lived a beautiful life. And currently, this property is just
slowly degrading in time, waiting for a new person to buy it. Because it is actually for sale. — It is so sad to see. — But it is in such a rough shape. — It’s roughly decaying. — If you look at the walls over here, you can just see
signs of moisture and degradation. — Look over there, you can already see
the concrete is coming out. — And the bricked wall right behind it. — Yeah. — All the debris falling from the ceiling and the wall
is all just littering the floor over here. Oh my gosh! This is in a rough shape. I really like this furniture. The stuffings on the side. We’re going to go through this long
stretching corridor. — Yeah, we have a very long-stretching corridor. — Check that out. Wow. — Like we said, this is a huge property. — It is a huge property and I’m wondering if
the other floor is as big as this one. — Yeah. — On the upstairs. — Yeah. — But I do think so. — I do get the feeling, yeah. — Wow! — Look at the tile work again over here. — Well, sadly, you can tell it has been
scavenged over here. Ransacked a little bit. — Yeah, this definitely looks like it’s been vandalized. Clothes still inside. — Yeah, like everything is left over here. Really, everything is left. — And they put a lot of stuff in boxes over here. I believe that’s even still
a “for-sale” sign over there. It’s crazy. The religious cross on the wall. — Yeah. — Look at this! Wow! It’s neat. — Yeah, it looks very neat. I think it was probably quite expensive
back then. Handmade. A seashell over there. A snowman. I don’t know what it was, maybe an
ashtray? — Yeah. — A little angel and some more of
these porcelain figurines. — Yep. — Wow, some coats over here. — Yeah. And this one is… Whoa…! — No freaking way! Bro, those are the ashes of the actual owner. — Damn. — He passed away in 2005. His cremated remains are still inside here. — That’s very sad, damn. — Holy cow… The green urn on the right contains Fidel’s remains, who
passed away in 2005 at the age of 72 years old. The urn next to his belongs to someone
born in 1902. A generation older, likely one of his
parents. — Have you ever found something like that? — I did, but in America, never in Europe. — No, no, no, me neither, like… — In America, I was in this funeral home… — Yeah, yeah, I know. — …and we found over a dozen cremated remains in urns. — I know that one, yeah. You told me, but damn, in Europe, that’s
kind of scary. As you can tell, right over here, it’s just
a cabinet filled with clothes and jackets. — I believe these are like sliding doors. — Yeah, they are. But it’s very roughly shaped and kind of stuck. — A little backpack there, some more purses. — Yeah. — Paperwork. — What is that? Clothes, right? — Mhm. Actually, I really want to see this piece over here. — Yeah, and you can tell… The pumps in here. Actually, I saw one of them in the pictures. That’s very crazy. Yeah, these are all the clothes. — I think the family was quite large in size, given
there are so many rooms and it’s a big place. — And we were right about the family coat of arms. — Yeah. — Do you know what it actually is? — “JBP”. J… B… P. — Yeah, I see it now. I’m wondering what it stands for. — I don’t know, I really don’t know. Also, the jacket, damn. Bro, if this is real, then…
iit’s quite expensive. — Well, they were wealthy people, so
it would make sense. If you look at the ceilings, you can again
see so many signs of leakage and decline. — Yeah, definitely. Damn. — Well, this was most likely a children’s bedroom. — Yep, it was. — We do have some pictures over here. This was probably the girl that slept
in this room, imagine that. Plush toys on top. — And look, old family pictures. Well, another family picture. A picture of these old ladies. — Yeah, probably one of the ladies is from the family,
and the rest are all like friends of hers. — Yep. And some more DVDs on the floor. Yeah, definitely from that time era. Haha, and look. — I really like these Spanish dolls over here. So traditional. Haha, look at this. They are all dressed up for a party. — Yeah, very nice. This here. — Still, the office desk. — Yep, with the Dell PC on it. — And some more dolls again over there. And that’s probably the girl when she was
a little bit older. — Yep. — She looks like the girl we’ve just seen in
the other picture with her mother. — That was it for this room, man. What was that? — There was somebody yawning in the street, haha. — I’m mainly excited for this part, man. Like, really, mainly excited for this part. Because this is so cool how it is preserved. — Wow! Have a look. A giant glass cube. — And it’s a pheasant, right? — I think it is, but I didn’t know they had
such long feathers. — They can have such long feathers. — Wow. — Deers on top. — All these paintings. I’m wondering if they maybe even painted
them themselves. — That could be. That could really be, but… — It looks like an old medieval village in Spain. — I mean, there are a lot of these
paintings. — There are plenty on the wall. I don’t even know where to look. Well, let’s just head inside this passage
over here. The walls are richly decorated again. — Yeah, they took proper care of that. — The matadors over here. On their horses. — Well, and look on the left of that. No, here. That is for the matador. — Ah, yeah! The rope. You’re right. — Typical Spanish, man. Typical Spanish. — This is from an anniversary in the year 2000. We’re getting close to the 2005 timeline. — Yeah. — But to really find out about the timeline,
we need to go into the kitchen right over there. — To this part here. — And hopefully, we’re going to find
some food products. — Because I’m not quite sure about that. Oh, wow! Bro… — A mug over there from Mallorca. — Well, talking about timelines and timeframes…
what do you think of a calendar? — 2009. — Yep. So, definitely the grandchildren were
the last inhabitants over here. Maybe they lived with the complete family
in this house. — They definitely had enough space. — Oh, yeah. — I think eventually the grandchildren did not have
any money for the upkeep of the building. — No, it’s a huge property. Nah, it’s emptied out. Yeah, it’s emptied out. Well, well, well. — Asparagus from 2014. — Yep, so… — The pans are still hanging up here. I don’t know what’s inside this room. It’s just like a side kitchen for some storage. They probably used all of these to can
their food products. — Yep. I do think so, yeah. But yeah, as you can tell, the kitchen is
very untouched. — Yeah, it really surprised me. — Like, I mean, I can open up all those drawers,
but just to give you a point of view. — The last dishes are still left there on
the drying rack. — Honestly, very untouched. — And I believe around the corner over there
is even a basement. — Yeah, I saw that. Well, isn’t there a chance…? Look at the staircase, damn! That’s very rotten. Watch out. — It’s flooded? — Yeah, it is. — I can’t see it from here. That’s why I was wondering. Dang. — It’s heavily flooded. — That’s a bummer. — Yeah, it’s quite common with basements. Alright. — Well, we do another room over here. — Well, a small side part, I guess. Oh, wow! — Oriental spoons over here. — Well… — This is from 2007. — Yeah, and we found the year 2009, so… Again, oriental. Well, is it oriental? No, it’s more African, I would say. — It looks like we’ve got a quite grand room
over here. Oh, we do, man! — Yeah. — Wow! Check that out! — This was definitely the grand dining table. — Wow! The fireplace over there. — Unbelievable. — The chandelier in the middle! Incredible. Wow! — The fireplace. — Yeah. — Damn, like… — Wow, have a look at these
antique carved wooden chairs. — This is real history. — It truly is. — Is there also a family emblem? No, right? — Not on the chairs, no. But there are these mythical figures,
creatures on the chairs. — Alcohol. — Some kind of aperitive, yeah. Wow. Check out this cupboard. — Yeah. — There are freaking dragons carved on the sides. Birds. — It’s unbelievable. I really like this album for an LP. Jive Bunny. — “Come on, everybody”, hahaha. Cool. — And there are a lot more records. — Yeah. A vase, hmm. — It looks like it’s the same style as that
one pedestal that we’ve just seen. — Yeah. — Woah, then it’s time to show you this
majestic chandelier. — Bro, look at the face carvings over there. Like, they are different everywhere. — Dragons with wings again. My gosh… what a precious piece. So sad to see how rusty it is. The sconces are matching the chandelier. The candle is still over here. — Well, then, over here’s a unique liquor cabinet. — Different fruit liquor: lime, kiwi. — Yep. — Still, some liquor glasses as well. Over here’s a more modern sound system
that was not used for their records. — No. — And then, this unique part of this room. — This is a very unique part, like
the tile work and everything. — Wow. — It’s so beautiful, it honestly is. — It’s incredible. A stuffed deer head. — Yeah. — From August 1989. This was the actual fireplace then. — Beautiful, right? And over here are some more LPs. They used to be in there. Lamps over here. — This was really unique. And there is also space for storage
underneath here. And even more music. These are the CDs that went inside. And there are also some more records
over there. This was definitely my favorite room so far. — Oh, yeah, definitely. — Now, let’s see what else we can find. What we didn’t expect to find was a paper
trail leading far beyond this palace. A story written not in memory,
but in debt. And after a deep-dive search on the internet,
we found a state bulletin from 1980. It mentions two brothers whose property
had been seized by the bank. And these two brothers turned out to be
Fidel and José Luis. After accumulating a substantial debt, two-thirds of their cinema establishment
was being forced into public auction. Financial collapse like this doesn’t
stay small. It ripples outward into family life, into maintenance of a property,
and into the future of a home like this. We can say with certainty that
this was the moment everything changed, but it was surely one of the turning points. A shift that changed the course of this
family and their palace. — Okay, so… — So many frames again. — Yeah. What is this? It’s a butterfly. — Yeah, it is. — Wow. Well, if you hold it in the shadow…
Wait. Yeah, you can…
Oh, yeah, like this. There you go. Well, they really tried to frame everything, haha. — Yeah, they definitely did not like naked walls. — No, no. They really tried their best to richly
decorate everything. — And I would say that these rooms are more plain. — Yeah, we’ve got a bedroom over here with a
massive television dropped on top of it. — Strange. — I’m surprised how many beautiful clothes
are left behind in this place. — Well, there are many documents in this room. — Actually, clinical reports. — Oh, maybe from the last owner. Because this is from 2008. Oh, look. — That looks like the mother of that one
daughter in the one room that we’ve seen. — A beautiful Spanish woman. — Some VHS tapes over here. Yeah, that’s far it for this room. There’s mostly just some paperwork. — Yeah, like I said, it was indeed quite plain. — We do have some other doors over here,
but it’s also mostly empty. Apart from the one CD and some liquid. These also look empty, but there is a book
on top. 1996. And back then, a maintenance worker wrote about
leaking roofs, failed repairs and water slowly eating its way into the palace. He even notes that he warned Fidel. A sign that the building was already slipping
into decline long before it was abandoned. A lot of purses in here. — So, definitely a room for a woman. — A quite simple bedroom over here. — Yeah, that’s quite strange, right? — Also, it looks a little bit more modern
for some reason. — Yeah. It does give me that feeling. Hmm… More plain as well. — It was definitely a woman sleeping here. — Yeah. Well, you can also tell that by the jewelry boxes. And signs of religion are also clearly
coming back. — Mhm. Well, over here it is quite plain except
for… jewelry, man. The boxes, of course, are stolen. But yeah… Everything is just mostly empty. — This room had an attached bathroom. It’s the first bathroom that we see. — I do think that this was the last room
that people used to live in. Because you can tell that this room is
a bit emptied out, you know? — Yeah, you could be right. Even the towel is still hanging there. Toothbrushes in here. — And then, we have the last room on this floor. There’s an old picture. Oh, wow! Well, I can’t show it too quickly, but… — There is a woman. Adessa Sanchez. — And it’s from 2008. — Maybe the last woman living here. — Yeah. Another bathroom. Some more signs of religion again. — So, that was it for this floor, at least. Let’s head upstairs. Our friend told us that there are many more rooms,
but I really do think they are bedrooms. Like, we haven’t seen it yet, so I’m quite curious. Let’s just go and we will see it. — So, we’re going upstairs and you can also see
massive decline over here on the side. It’s just crazy. I’ve already captured a glimpse of the
banister and check it out. All iron with beautiful details and shapes. — Oh, Maureno, watch your step! — Yeah, that’s what I wanted to tell you
right now. We’ve got to watch our step right here
because show it to them. — It’s crazy, man. I do think- — You were also telling me when we were about to go
to the basement that this staircase is in a rough shape. — Yeah. I think there also used to be a beautiful
chandelier or something hanging up here. — Something like that, but it’s not there anymore. — Okay, we have a lot of different ways to go. I think we should just first go to this corner and then, explore the other rooms. Oh, this is actually another staircase. — It’s going up, yeah. — Yeah. Okay, so, let’s keep it for the last. I’m not sure where this goes. — I think it’s locked. — Yeah. Alright. We’ve just got a simple double room over here
with two beds. — Yep. — And they also used to have a tiny balcony
over here. They could watch the street side. — As you can tell, you can hear everybody talking. — But no clothes or anything are left anymore. Oh, look at this! — Look over here. It looks very detailed. — Some more dolls on the bed as well. — Yeah, as you can tell. It is plain. — Look at the locks. They are beautiful. Beautifully detailed, at least. — And then, also, we’ve got a very nice
little chandelier on top. Very different from the other ones we’ve seen. — Beautiful, man. — Well, talking about mostly empty,
this is almost empty. — Haha, yeah. — But, we do have a Christmas tree left here. I’m really wondering if this floor has
anything special to offer because so far, I’m not really amazed by what I’m seeing. It’s just simple rooms. But wow, look! We do have a very vintage television of Inter. And the very floor plan of the cinema
they used to own. Also, two vintage dolls over here inside. — Yeah. — This is also, yeah, you can tell just some storage. There are a few posters on the walls. — Peter Strauss on the wall. Yeah, and just some other figurines. — Another very plain room. — Yep, you can see the golden bed. This has been made by a child one day. — I think if this floor is not really spectacular that… the attic is also not going to be very stuffed,
but we’re still going to check it out. — Oh, yeah. Well, they tried to… — Store things… Arrange things, because over here you can clearly tell,
these are all doors from cabinets. — Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. — That they dismantled. — I think this was the first floor that they did. And here, also for maintenance. — Over here you also see signs that they do care
about leakage and are just… finding a quick solution by placing a bucket. — Yep, exactly. Well, vegetation coming inside. — That is crazy, yeah. — Yeah, that’s very cool. — It’s completely merging inside. Let’s go to the attic, the final floor. I’m surprised that this building is actually consisting of 3 floors,
because I thought it was only 2. — Okay, so, walking our way up to the attic,
you can see a lot of bird droppings. — I think it leads to the roof, I’m not sure. — Me neither, but let’s find out, man. — Okay… — Does it open? — Come here, we gotta show them the moment of truth. — Oh! Whoa! Damn, Mo. — Oh, this is so cool! — Yeah. Wow! That’s crazy, you can see the church over there. It’s actually starting to rain inside this
Spanish town. — Yeah. — And given that we are outside right now,
we’re just going to close it off right over here. Remon and I really want to thank you for

Hidden in the Spanish countryside stands a once-majestic palace. For decades, it belonged to two brothers, Fidel and José Luis, whose lives revolved around light, film, and the magic of the cinema. 👥🎞️✨
Inside these walls, we uncover their story piece by piece:
• A military booklet from 1956 revealing the youth of José Luis… 🪖
• Work documents showing the brothers’ life in the world of cinema… 🎦
• Old registers, debts, and ledgers gradually exposing the downfall the family never escaped. 🚫
A government bulletin from 1980 confirms the tragedy: after years of financial struggle, two-thirds of their cinema establishment was forced into public auction. It was the blow that changed everything — a turning point from prosperity to irreversible decline.
Walking through their abandoned home today, we find the traces of that loss still preserved in dust:
🪦 The cremation urn of Fidel, still resting quietly in a cabinet
🎬 Ledgers and visit books from their cinema business
🕰️ Heavy carved woodwork, chandeliers, and tiled halls frozen in time
💼 An office left exactly as it was
This is the forgotten palace of two cinema brothers… and the lives that slowly faded after the project they built together slipped from their hands.

Hey dear Maureno, Explomo, I had to rewatch this fascinating video from your explore trip in that huge Spanish mansion. I loved seeing these grand rooms with the elaborately carved furniture in a late 19th century historism style. – Very interesting background story of these two brothers, who were also in the cinema business. So sad to hear about them having to give up everything because of depts. And – of course also so very sad to see such a wonderful location with still a lot of intact interior slowly decaying through decades because of upkeep neglect!
I very much enjoyed rewatching! Wishing you a very blessed Advent period, blessings, peace and happy greetings.
At 2:13 the photos are celebrities. That photo of the lady was actress Katharine Hepburn
