During the Osaka World Expo, which concluded in October this year, an automatic human bathing machine attracted widespread attention. Now, this machine, developed by the Japanese technology company Science, is officially on sale in Japan, with a single unit priced at a staggering 60 million yen.

According to AFP, this capsule-shaped device is called “Future Human Body Cleaning MachineAfter the user lies inside the device and closes the lid, the machine operates like a washing machine, washing clothes while playing music. The user doesn’t need to do anything; they just need to wait for their body to be cleaned.

This shower machine can be seen as an extension and upgrade of the “automatic shower machine” concept from the 1970 Osaka World Expo. Its prototype was exhibited during this year’s Osaka World Expo, attracting many people to queue up to see it. Science Director Yuko Maekura said that the company president was inspired by the automatic shower machine back then and has continued to invest in the research and development of automated shower technology for many years.

Yuko Maekura emphasized that in addition to helping with cleaning, this device also has a relaxing effect, and the machine will simultaneously detect physiological indicators such as heart rate.

Yuko Maekura, the spokesperson for the “Future Body Washing Machine,” revealed that the decision to mass-produce the machine stemmed from an inquiry from a US resort operator regarding the commercial viability of the prototype. An Osaka hotel became the first buyer, planning to offer the machine to its guests; Yamada Denki, a major Japanese electronics retailer, is also among the potential buyers, hoping to attract customers to its stores.

Given the appeal of this shower machine stemming from its rarity, Yuko Maekura stated that the company currently plans to produce only about 50 units.
