A Soothing Day Trip Exploring Beautiful Forests and Seaside Shrines in Chiba🍃 │ Japan Travel Vlog

Hello, MY and Mii here. Today, we’re taking a relaxing day trip to Chiba. It’s still before sunrise. We’ve arrived at the Tsukumo Valley on Mt. Kano, where you can see the sea of clouds. This is a spectacular spot offering panoramic views of the cascading mountain ranges. The sky is gradually brightening. The sun is coming into view. It’s almost sunrise. The sunrise over the vast mountain range is breathtakingly beautiful… Unfortunately, we didn’t see the sea of clouds today, but we were still glad to see the beautiful sunrise. We’re heading to our next destination, one of Chiba Prefecture’s most iconic spots. We walk along a promenade surrounded by greenery to the cave. About 10 minutes later, we come across the Lucky Bell. The sound of the bell is said to bring good fortune and longevity from beyond the Kameiwa Rock. Right in front of the Lucky Bell are the Kameyama Cave and Nomizo Falls. The fantastical and mystical scenery is captivating. Just walking through the greenery and the Shimizu Keiryu Square and the stream is soothing. This square allows visitors to enjoy seasonal natural scenery, including fresh greenery, fireflies, and autumn leaves. The maple trees are lush and beautiful. We walk slowly toward the exit. It was an early morning, but it was a very quiet and relaxing place. The air is clear and beautiful. We find ourselves wanting to stay. It’s sad to leave, but we have to move on to our next destination. The maple leaves are starting to change color! Autumn is already here. We arrive at a lake near Kameiwa Cave. Wow… what a mysterious torii gate. We come here to see the beautiful torii gate standing in the lake! Lake Kameyama is the largest dam lake in Chiba Prefecture and a tourist spot rich in nature, famous as the “backyard of the Boso Peninsula.” The surrounding area features campgrounds, lakeside parks, and boat launches. Apparently, you can also enjoy fishing on the lake. It’s a very open, relaxing place, with beautiful scenery. I imagine it would be beautiful in the autumn leaves season… In addition to the torii gate, we’re able to enjoy the magnificent scenery. A queue of fish filled the parking lot… After an hour’s drive, we arrive at Daifukuji Temple. The ocean is visible even from the moment we enter the temple grounds. Daifukuji Temple’s symbol is the vermilion-lacquered Kannon Hall, floating on the mountainside within the temple grounds, and it has become known affectionately as “Cliff Kannon.” While we’re looking forward to heading to the main image, we decide to take our time and look around the grounds. We can hear the beautiful sounds of black kites. Perhaps it’s a family of black kites…? We head up to the main image on the cliff. The climb up and down the stairs is a bit arduous, but the views along the way are so beautiful we can’t help but stop and stare. Perhaps we could see even further from the main hall. We’re looking forward to it! Along the way, we come across the Naritasan branch temple. Just a short distance away from the main image. We arrive at the main hall, perched on a hill! It’s a spectacular spot offering a panoramic view of Tateyama Bay and, in the distance, Izu Oshima. Shoes are prohibited inside the Kannon Hall, so we remove them before entering. The principal image, the Eleven-Headed Kannon Bodhisattva, is said to have been carved in 717 by Gyoki, who visited the area during his pilgrimage to the eastern provinces, to pray for safety at sea and bountiful catches for local fishermen. It has been rebuilt several times, destroyed by heavy rains and the Great Kanto Earthquake, and remains standing to this day. It’s hard to believe it’s standing on a cliff. What an unusually shaped pine tree. We arrive at Susaki Shrine, located at the tip of the Boso Peninsula. We enter the shrine from the beach across the road from the entrance. Wow, the ocean view beyond the beach torii gate is so beautiful! Today it’s faint, but on a clear day, you can see Mount Fuji beyond the torii gate! It’s hard not to stop in front of the torii gate and gaze out at the ocean. A bell of happiness stands at the rocky shore. A large stone known as a “goshinseki” (sacred stone) sits on the beach. Gazing at the endless blue ocean is truly refreshing. We retrace our steps from the coast and headed toward the shrine. Susaki Shrine is where Minamoto no Yoritomo, who fled to Awa after losing the Battle of Ishibashiyama, prayed for victory. It is worshipped as the guardian deity of safe childbirth, safe voyages, bountiful catches, bountiful harvests, and good fortune. To reach the main shrine, you must climb approximately 150 steps. There is a wooden walking stick in front of the stairs! I decide to use it. Halfway up the stairs, we look back and see a beautiful view. We arrive at the worship hall. It is said to bestow blessings on Minamoto no Yoritomo, such as revival and restoration. From the shrine grounds, we head to a spectacular spot for viewing Mt. Fuji. We arrive! This spot offers a view of Mt. Fuji beyond the torii gate facing the sea. On clear days, you can get a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji from inside the torii gate. Today, there are some clouds, making it difficult to see Mt. Fuji clearly, but look! Dragon clouds are floating in the sky! Dragon clouds are clouds shaped like dragons that appear in the sky and are considered to be a sign of good fortune and special events. We’re so lucky!! Our trip around the Boso Peninsula has now come to an end. It was our first time visiting the Boso Peninsula, and it was a truly wonderful place, surrounded by beautiful nature and healing.
