Friday, November 21, 2025 Mount Fuji as seen from Asagiri Plateau! 😊 Shiraito Falls is about 15 minutes from here. Shiraito Falls, where we’re heading, has long been known as a picturesque spot. In 1936, it was designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty and Natural Monument. In 2013, it was registered by UNESCO as a component of the Mount Fuji World Heritage Site. Shiraito Falls will be lit up for two nights only. This year marks the fifth year of the event, but it’s probably only known by locals. Today, we’ll be taking part in this secret event! Exciting 😊 Let’s take a look at the waterfalls during the day too 😊 Shiraito Falls is not the only component of the Mount Fuji World Heritage Site; Otodome Falls is also included. A little upstream, the river splits into two branches, flowing into two waterfalls. You can see the top of Otodome Falls. Since being registered as a World Heritage Site, the area around the falls has become incredibly cleaner than before.✌️ Such beautiful structures never existed before. The two-night-only illumination event will be held to coincide with the autumn leaves. Last year, it was over a week early, but this year, it’s just the right timing.👍 Otodome Falls is on the left, and Shiraito Falls is on the right. Shiraito (White Thread) Falls Otodome Falls In addition to the large waterfall, you can see several thin waterfalls like white threads emerging from the lava beds. Finally, we’ve arrived at Shiraito Falls 😊 Apparently, there are 30 waterfalls across Japan called Shiraito (White Thread) Falls 😮 Of these, the one right in front of you is probably the most famous. Underground water from Mt. Fuji flows out from the lava layer. While Karuizawa’s Shiraito Falls is man-made, this one is truly natural.✌️ During the Kamakura period, Shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo is said to have composed waka poetry here.😊 You can even see a rainbow.😊 This is Shiraito Falls, a national scenic spot and natural monument, and a component of the Mount Fuji World Heritage Site. ✌️ You can also see Mount Fuji from the observation deck. ✌️ Now, let’s take a look at the spring water, “Obinmizu.” It’s said that Minamoto no Yoritomo used this spring water to mend his frayed sideburns during the “Fuji Makigari” hunting ceremony. Beautiful sunset. 😊 I learned about the illuminations today on the Fujinomiya City website. That’s the only way to find out about small events that only locals attend. I feel like there are a lot of small but wonderful events like that in Fujinomiya City. A while ago, I shared a look at an event called “Yuno Tekuteku.” Fantastic events are often held at Asagiri Food Park, adjacent to the Asagiri Kogen Roadside Station on your left. I regularly check the Fujinomiya City website to find such events. We’ll soon be at Shiraito Falls. Enjoy the view of Mt.
