A Ghibli Summer In Japan’s Coastal Town | Izu & Mount Omuro | JAPAN TRAVEL VLOG
Good morning from a little town in Izu I’m staying in this beautiful pension ran by a husband and wife Starting the day with a homemade breakfast It’s hard to get your vegetables in while travelling So I’m glad to see such a colourful plate! They’re sending me to the base of Mount Omuro, our first stop It’s only 5 minutes away from the accomodation There’s not much of a queue at 9 am The weather today is half good, half bad It can go either way so I’m hoping for the best! Let’s take the chairlifts to the top Tickets are 1000 yen (~6.6 USD) round trip It’s the only way up this mountain as hiking is not allowed I feel like Howl’s Moving Castle could show up anytime Don’t forget to smile for the camera Mount Omuro is an extinct volcano that last erupted 4000 years ago It’s perfectly coned-shaped and completely covered with pampas grass The contrast of the colors makes the scenery look straight out of an anime On a clear day you can see Oshima Island right across It’s on my bucket list of places to visit! The bright red torii gates make the mountain even more picturesque Let’s walk all the way around the rim It’s like being suspended above the clouds It’s like being suspended above the clouds Guardians of travelers, childrens and souls ✨ You can see the rest of the town from here Every February, the whole mountain will be burned in the Yamayaki festival It’s a 700 year-old tradition to renew the grass Doesn’t the landscape remind you of the town in ‘Your Name’? Our next stop is the Izu Oceanic Park Public transport here isn’t the most convenient Best to take note of departure times to plan ahead for your next destination The bus stops off at this museum There’s a path to its left that will lead you to a peaceful coastal trail I love seeing these purple morning glories in bloom The sounds of nature together with the gentle light filtering through the trees It feels soft and calming here There’s a hole in the ground 😮 This is the Jogasaki coast The waves are so powerful But it feels refreshing at this height You can get a soft serve at the end of the trail Tempting but there’s a cafe I want to try next Let’s head back to the bus stop This is the cutest museum I’ve ever been Totoro is everywhere! Inside this museum, there’s a really charming cafe called Teddy’s Garden I’m surprised there’s barely anyone in here Every seat has a teddy bear I wanted to order these but the coffee machine is broken today Got an earl grey cake and a royal milk tea instead The cake is soft and fragrant with just the right amount of sweetness, allowing you to taste the Earl Grey Simply delicious At first I wanted to skip this museum and head home But I thought to just check it out since I’m here I ended up really enjoying it as it’s not only teddy bears The teddys are displayed in such fun and creative ways I love this display the most The Belmond trains… (teddy version) The outfits are so ornate and beautiful The details in this miniature house is just amazing There’s something for the My Neighbour Totoro fans too A giant Totoro appears ….and a mini one Scenes from the movie are recreated using stuffed plushies So many soot sprites! This place is so wonderful At the end, there’s a giant cat bus you can take photos with One for the journal You can also book a workshop to make your own bear After you’ve finished creating your bear, you can send it in for an MRI Weigh & measure their height & finally, a stop at the hair salon to ensure their fur looks its very best This activity is perfect for kids (and anyone who’s still young at heart) Home time Dinner back at the accomodation You have to prebook but all this for 2000 yen (~13 USD) They do Chinese & Japanese cuisine It tastes like I’m back at grandmas ☺️ If you’re interested in this accomodation, I’ve put a link in the description
Spend a day with me in the Izu Peninsula where we explore the beautiful Mount Omuro. Its landscape feels just like the little town from Kimi no Na wa (Your Name). Then, we head to the coast for a peaceful seaside trail, cross a suspension bridge, and visit a charming teddy bear café and museum (complete with a cute Studio Ghibli display!)
I hope you enjoy 🙂

I love what you do. I don't know if you studied film, photography, or if you just have great intuition. I love the shots you use, the rhythm, the music—no special effects, just great footage. You're a genius, I admire you so much. Thank you.
I’m adding this to my travel bucket list!
Very nice spot. The Totoro part of the Teddy Bear Museum is so cute.
This healed the Totoro fan inside me in an indescribable way
Did you see TOTORO there? Wow, it was a very memorable moment in my childhood when I saw My Neighbor Totoro on TV.
I love Studio Ghibli. Thank You for all you do. Have a treat from little Kochi when you visit a snack shop. 🌸
This is so pretty, much like the north eastern parts of India 🇮🇳
