We Traveled to Hokkaido Japan and Visited Its Must-See Spots

We are in Otaru, Hokkaido, Japan, and we’re going to show you the fun things you can do here. Now, we are at Shiroy Kito Park. This attraction feels like stepping into a chocolate dreamland. When you enter the museum, they give you this little snap. I thought it was chos, but it looks like this. This movie tells you the history of chocolate, but it’s really loud. This whole exhibit is on chocolate blanc which are the wafers with the chocolate inside that I just ate. Here’s where they lay the white chocolate. See the white chocolate comes down and then it becomes like a sandwich. Here you can see the chocolate factory and they also have a board with the number of cookies they produce today. And I realized that this is the brand of chocolate that they make at this factory because chirroy which is in the name means white. So this is a white chocolate factory. The way this company was invented is that the owner wanted a way for you to eat chocolate without getting your hands sticky. So that’s why there’s cookies. And that is Shiroy Kito Park. I thought it was pretty fun to see how the chocolate is made. But overall, this is kind of a tourist shop and everything is a bit expensive here. My favorite part was seeing the chocolate baking process and I did enjoy the cookie that I tasted which they give you at the start of the tour. But yeah, as brother said, this place is pretty crowded and you get the feeling that’s a tourist trap. Now we’re at Otaru Music Boss Museum. This place feels like a nostalgic time capsule filled with melodies. See this? Wind it all the way up and then and when you stop winding it, it’ll blank. I found Under the Sea. It was really slow. This is the song of Mumen. And movement is a story we found on this trip. What is this? This is a movement. I’m just going to play them all abusively. Am I going to get these out? I probably will. We’re going to replace Kamu with Mu. Hi, Muin. This is vegan. I need all of them to be spinning on. We just finished exploring the music box museum, which is partly a museum, but mostly a shop. I thought it was really fun just to listen to all the different musics. I really enjoyed looking at all the characters that are actually on the music box. It was fun. My favorite part was seeing all the Hokkaido owls and I liked the music box that had the characters that were dancing from left to right. Now we are going to explore Sakayam Machi Hondori Street, Otaru’s most charming street of shops, snacks, and old town vibes. We are at Roe Otaru Canal Store. And this place sells a whole bunch of snacks. This one that we got looks like an ice cream sandwich, but it’s actually it’s like a chocolate on the outside and the inside is Hokkaido cheesecake. This store is called Lea Chocolier. And I like this better than the chocolate museum in Saporro because there’s samples around every corner and they all actually taste so good. We saw this stand called Hello Wagyu. They sell minced beef cutlet using Hokkaido Wagyu. So, we’re going to try. We got matcha ice cream at this place and I’m going to try it before I’m out. We’re in another shop and this one has soup samples. It’s time to go on a 40-minute boat ride with Otaru Canal Cruise. And make sure you go to the visitor center to get your coupon before paying up the town. This cruise guides you over the water, showcasing Otaru’s old town charm from a whole new angle. This is a life vest. I think it’s their version of a life vest, but I don’t know how much it’ll save me. The tour is in Japanese, but they give you these earphones because under the seat there’s English audio that you can listen to. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And and that is the Otaru Canal cruise. I really enjoyed learning about all the old buildings here and really looking at them. My favorite part about this cruise was learning about the history of Otaru Canal and how it used to be for like industries and there was a lot of factories, but then all the cargo ships started moving to the ports nearby. So now this isn’t for industry, it’s more for tourism and leisure. And we were able to get some pretty cool photos on the cruise. I think this cruise would look better at night because the tour mentioned how those lamps are gas lamps. So, it will just line the entire canal and it’ll be very pretty. We are at the top of Mount Tangu and there’s two ways you can get here. You can either ride the cable car or you can drive up. We chose to drive up and uh during the winter this is a ski resort. We’re going to check out the Otaru Ski Museum. This museum carves into Japan’s long history with skiing and winter sports. We’re in an exhibit about Japanese Tangu. And these guys, believe it or not, are conceived as gods in Japanese mythology. See you in the next video. Bye.

Join us as we explore the best of Hokkaido, starting in Sapporo at Shiroi Koibito Park, where chocolate-filled streets, whimsical displays, and sweet photo spots set the tone for our trip. From there, we made our way to Otaru, a coastal town packed with charm, beginning with a slow stroll down Sakaimachi Hondori Street—lined with glass shops, local treats, and old-town architecture that makes you want to duck into every storefront. We stepped inside the Otaru Music Box Museum, where hundreds of melodies echo through the building, and then hopped on the Otaru Canal Cruise for a peaceful ride along calm water and historic stone warehouses. We wrapped it all up at the Otaru Ski Museum, learning how winter sports shaped Hokkaido’s culture long before it became a traveler favorite. Whether you’re planning a future Japan adventure or simply love discovering new destinations, come along for stunning scenery, cozy vibes, and all the reasons Hokkaido deserves a spot on your list.
