【October in Japan 2025③】Complete Guide to Today’s Temperature & What to Wear!

Hi guys, it’s Rubel ! This is the third video in my 3-day series all about Japan in October 2025! Today, Day 3
we’re diving into October weather in Japan and what you should wear! If you’re planning a trip, this video is going to be super helpful, so stick around! October in Japan : Weather and What to Wear So, let’s talk about the weather. October in Japan is honestly one of the most comfortable times of the year. The heat of summer is gone, the chilly winter hasn’t arrived yet—it’s just right. But! There’s one important thing you need to keep in mind…typhoons. In the past, typhoons almost never made landfall in Japan in October. But with climate change, in recent years it’s become possible. If a typhoon does hit, expect a few days of strong winds and heavy rain. That’s why I always recommend planning some indoor activities as a backup, just in case. Museums, shopping, themed cafés—there’s plenty to do even on rainy days! By the way, I’ve already made a video all about how to stay safe during a typhoon in Japan. I’ll link it here—
make sure to check it out before your trip, just to be prepared. And now, let’s get into the details! I’m going to break down the temperatures and outfit tips for Japan’s major regions, so you can pack smart and be comfortable wherever you go. Make sure to check the area you’ll be visiting! Tokyo Area This includes Tokyo, Saitama, Kanagawa, and Chiba. The climate is almost the same across all of them. In early October, temperatures range from about 68°F (20°C) to 82°F (28°C). Days can still feel warm, but overall it’s very pleasant. A T-shirt is totally fine. If you’re sensitive to the cold, bring a light jacket just in case. By late October, temperatures drop to around 71°F (22°C)down to 53°F (12°C). Mornings can get chilly. A hoodie or sweater will be perfect. Since it can still warm up suddenly,
it’s smart to have layers you can take off easily. Osaka & Kyoto Area This covers Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and Hyogo. Compared to Tokyo, it’s just a little warmer. In early October, temperatures range from 71°F (22°C) to 90°F (32°C). A T-shirt works great here too. By late October, you’ll see about 75°F (24°C) down to 57°F (14°C). It does get chilly in the mornings, so hoodies or sweaters are a good idea. Again—layering is key! Kyushu & Shikoku Kyushu includes places like Fukuoka, Kagoshima, and Miyazaki. Shikoku includes Kochi, Tokushima, and Ehime. These areas are noticeably warmer than Tokyo. In early October, expect 71°F (22°C) to 94°F (34°C). T-shirts are all you need. By late October, temps go from about 78°F (26°C) down to 57°F (14°C). Daytime is still T-shirt weather, but if you get cold easily, bring a light jacket. Hiroshima Area This includes Hiroshima, Okayama, Shimane, and Yamaguchi. Slightly warmer than Tokyo overall. Early October runs about 71°F (22°C) to 87°F (31°C). T-shirts are totally fine. By late October, it’s 71°F (22°C) down to 59°F (15°C). A light jacket is handy for mornings and evenings. Okinawa Okinawa is the southernmost part of Japan, and October there basically still feels like summer. In early October, it’s around 80°F (27°C) to 94°F (34°C). And honestly, late October feels the same. You can stay in T-shirts all day, even in the mornings. Hokkaido & Aomori Now, the exact opposite of Okinawa—Hokkaido! This is Japan’s northernmost region, and it’s the first place to feel winter. In early October, temperatures range from 59°F (15°C) to 82°F(28°C). T-shirts are okay, but bring a light jacket if you get chilly. By late October, temps drop to about 62°F (17°C) to 46°F (8°C). Mornings and nights can get very cold,
and in some areas you might even see snow. A proper coat and shoes with good traction are highly recommended. Tohoku Area This includes Sendai, Niigata, and Yamagata. It’s a little cooler than Tokyo. In early October, temps are around 59°F (15°C) to 80°F (27°C). A T-shirt works, plus a light jacket if needed. By late October, it cools down to 73°F (23°C) down to 48°F (9°C). Mornings and nights can feel pretty cold, so layering is important—
T-shirt plus a jacket or sweater. If you really hate the cold, bring a coat. So overall, October in Japan is super comfortable across the country. But remember : early October and late October can feel completely different. You might want to pack a little extra clothing just in case. But don’t worry—Japan has tons of affordable and high-quality clothing stores everywhere. Honestly, one of the best tips is to just buy what you need when you need it. I even made a video called “Come to Japan with an Empty Suitcase!”
—check it out for more ideas. Earst Japan will keep bringing you the best of Japan, so stay tuned. See you in the next video. Bye! See you!
