Thai influencer Jack Papho with 6.4 million followers has come under fire after posting a video of himself dancing shirtless on the roof of a car at a popular Mount Fuji viewpoint in Japan.
The one-minute clip, filmed in front of a Lawson convenience store that overlooks Mount Fuji in the resort town of Kawaguchiko, was shared on Monday and quickly went viral.
In the video Jack Papho dances on top of the vehicle while a caption reads: “No matter who looks down on me, I don’t care about their words.”
Kawaguchiko, in the northern foothills of Mount Fuji, is a favorite spot for photographers and travelers seeking iconic views of the mountain.
Within three hours of posting, the clip generated more than 12,000 comments.
Many Thai netizens condemned the stunt as “disrespectful” and “inappropriate,” saying it showed poor judgement at a scenic and culturally significant location, Bangkok Post reported.
Netizens warned that such behavior could harm the reputation of Thai tourists and fuel stricter measures for foreign visitors.
A Facebook user sent an open letter to the Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs asking that Jack Papho’s Thai passport be revoked and future passport applications denied, calling his actions “an embarrassment to Thailand,” The Nation reported.
Many netizens backed the petition and urged the Embassy of Japan in Bangkok to ask Japanese authorities to cancel his visa and ban him from re-entry.
The letter cited Thailand’s 1977 Passport Act, which permits revocation if a passport holder commits offenses overseas or behaves in ways that threaten national security or public order.
Since July 2013, Japan has offered visa exemption for Thai visitors to revive its tourism industry following the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster.
This policy was temporarily halted during the pandemic but reinstated in October 2022.
