Marie Anchordoguy

Professor Emerita Marie Anchordoguy

Earlier this month, the Government of Japan announced the recipients of the 2025 Autumn Conferment of Decoration on Foreign Nationals.

Among the recipients is Marie Anchordoguy, a professor emerita at the Jackson School and former chair of the Center for Japanese Studies. Anchordoguy was honored with the Order of the Rising Sun in the third class (Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon).

The Order of the Rising Sun was established by the Japanese government in 1875, with non-Japanese recipients being honored beginning in 1981.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Anchordoguy was honored for her contributions toward “promoting academic exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and the United States.”
