Cycling along a Volcano in Kagoshima | 2 Days in Southern Japan

Wow. [Music] [Music] After our two nights in Kumamoto, we continued our journey further south and took the Shinkansen to the southern point of Kyushu, Magma City, Kagoshima. But before exploring the city with its famous active volcano Zakurajima, we decided to enjoy lunch first and went out to eat tonkatu. So we arrived at the Zen. No, Zang. Zenang. Uh it’s a park um bit similar like the one maybe um we have visited yesterday in Kumamoto. Let’s see. But we have a very nice view on the Zakurajima volcano. Isn’t it nice? It’s bloody hot also. That’s why we continue now to go to the park which is there where the yellow bus is. So, let’s go. Bye-bye. Hot. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] Hello. Hello. Hello. As you see, we didn’t go to the park because the entrance fee was 1,600 yen and we went to a very nice park yesterday for 300 something. For only 300 something. So, we thought like, nah, let’s save the money, do something different. And as you might figure out, we are in a little capsule still going up. Still ongoing up. and you will see where we’re going soon. In the meantime, I can tell you that the last 3 hours we were spending time on shopping and Sherry got a she went crazy again because I I told her footage. Let’s check the footage. Okay. Okay. 10 seconds later, I decided because I will not say much anymore because I’m afraid of height. We are on a ferris wheel right now and as you can see we see in the background the Sakurajima volcano and I think I’m going to stop talking while we’re on the right because I hate it the smoke the smoke is coming out from separately. Oh yeah, you can still see the smoke. We’ll show you some footage now. And the ferris wheel was only 500 or €3. Less than €3. Perfect. Oo, bit old. Oh man, this capsule is so small. I told you it’s only us here. It’s a small capsule. And oh, what did I do? The footage you see right now is the footage of Sherry how she took stuff. And I just look down. Don’t move too much. Don’t move, I tell you. And I will just look at the bottom of the capsule four. Hopefully, not too long. Most stupidest thing ever. Stupidest idea ever. [Music] So guys, after the ferris wheel, we went shopping and now it’s 8:00. We just checked in and we will go for dinner now. Ferris wheel was cool for Sherry, she said. Um, nice view, she said. Yeah, the day was quite shopping intensive. Um, and now we are hungry. So, let’s have a look what we get here. [Music] We finished dinner. Now, let’s go to a supermarket to finish the day. Good night and see you tomorrow on Sakurajima on the next episode. [Music] [Music] Good morning everyone. Morning. As you see in the background, the volcano and now we walk for around 20 minutes from our hotel to the seaside and we will take a ferry to the island. Ferry should take around 15 minutes and drives every 15 to 20 minutes. So, we hope that there is no big eruption while we are there. You see there’s still steam coming out. So, it’s uh active. Let’s go. [Music] So, Kagoshima is very warm, I would say. Isn’t it? Yeah. Yeah. Very tropical. You see the palm trees here. There’s the sign blocking the view. And um I would say generally speaking, trees are quite warm and Oh, yeah. Yeah, definitely. And what you can see here in the streets is uh sometimes ashes um from the last eruptions which happen to have to be a couple of times per year. And yeah, quite interesting. [Music] Look at us. We are on bicycles. We just arrived on Zakurajima, the volcano island. and rented two bicycles for a couple of hours. Each bicycle is €2 something per hour. It’s warm, but the wind is quite quite nice. They are not ebikes. They’re normal bikes. And uh later we have to go up some hills, of course, down again on one time. So, after getting splashed by the fountain, it’s Sher’s turn to drink something. Yeah. [Music] [Laughter] [Music] Not that easy, right? Uh-uh. [Music] [Music] We are right now here and we’re going to here. Oh, here. Here we are. And we go here now. And then we go back. So these are shelters in the case of the eruption of the volcano which is behind. Ooh, spiders. Shelter number five. Where do you see this? Number five. Ah, up there. Okay, let’s continue. Rent bicycles. That might be fun. No one ever said, “Oh, I have to wait for Sherry now. It’s going up and down here.” Oh, man. And it’s 31°. No shadow. At least it’s cloudy. But ah, there she coming. And continue. [Music] [Music] Yay! We made it to the viewpoint. Not half around the island. One/3 maybe. It’s bloody hot and hilly. No ebikes, but we got a nice view on the Sakuraima. There are several spots here where you can have a look on the mountain. And how was it? If it’s not that humid or warm, I mean, or if it’s with ebikes, it will make it easier. Definitely ebikes, but they don’t have so many there, so we have to use the muscle power to see it. And yeah, on our way back, there are some other several small spots, um, statues, rivers, lava, rivers, um, or ash rivers actually. And at the end we will be welcomed by a little foot onen where we can bath our feet. Mine for sure. They are dusty and sweaty. I have a small tower. We can share it I think together. Mhm. And then we go back to the main island. But so far we are going to enjoy the view of this mount. Zakurajima. Yeah. All right. On the way here we saw a couple of shelters also where you can Yeah. hide yourself when it’s when there’s an eruption. And and on the way, there were also some like gate, safety gate or stop that I kind of saw in some of the Fukushima um videos that there will be a black gate and such when it’s volcano level warning warning level five and then the gates will close and we cannot go further than that. But today is volcano warning level three. So it’s okay. We can continue. So, let’s continue. [Music] I like this cute little lamps with some volcano on it. So, now the wind changed. So does the clouds go now to the kind of north actually at least the left side of our vision here. Usually it goes always to the other side. [Music] [Music] Back on the mainland. And yes, on a training section. Yeah, man. Cycling around the volcano is tough. We rent the bicycle for 3 and 1/2 hours and we are so messed up. So, we’re hungry now. We only had our small lunch at 9 something. Breakfast. Breakfast. Oh, yeah. So now we’re going to Mus Burger, Japanese burger brand because right now most of the restaurants they’re already closed and they will first open at 5 or 6 and such and right now around three or four. Right now it’s 4 something. We can only get some chin 3:31. Mhm. Yeah. What would you rate the trip to Sakurajima? I would give it a four out of five. It’s good. If we had ebikes, that would be five. That would be a five out of five with ebikes. Um, that’s true. Mhm. I also would rate it four out of five because it’s exhausting. If you do it with normal bikes, um, do it not between June and May, I would say will be very warm. Yeah. So, do it only with ebikes. Um, man. Okay. Let’s get some food. Get some food. Heat. Heat. [Music] We got that one. All done. [Music] And this is a kids dentist. [Music] Now it’s 8 something. Time for dinner. And yeah, so maybe we will have tonkatu again like yesterday because tomorrow on we go on Yakushima, small island for three nights. Uh we will have mostly sushi I will guess. Um since an island. So yeah, let’s have dinner now. [Music]
