Riding Japan’s Most Bizarre Streetcar “Chuggington Train” in Okayama
Today’s video is… Just relax and enjoy the video! October 18th, 2025 Okayama, Japan Here, I’m at Korakuen Garden, located in central Okayama City It’s a castle-front garden and one of the “3 Most Beautiful Gardens in Japan” with Kenrokuen and Kairakuen The making of the garden was completed in 1700 It retains the Edo period atmosphere as it was (1603 – 1868) Before today’s travel, let’s just spend time calming here Being here makes me feel like I’m back in time Okay, ladies and gentlemen, let’s get down to today’s travel Now taking a streetcar of Okayama City, Okaden Okaden has a history of over 100 years Today, we are trying the most outstanding train on Okaden I’m now moving to catch the train Like a Samurai train, cool So now Let me present to you… The “Chuggington” train It’s very outstanding in the city It’s a two-car train with Willson in red and Brewster in blue and yellow By the way, Chuggington is a British animated children’s television series about a group of young trainees who are the main characters, Wilson, Brewster, and Koko the show, aimed at preschoolers, follows their adventures as they learn to master new skills and the importance of teamwork and problem-solving in the world of the chuggers…. That’s Chuggington When Willson and Brewster are happy, the train plays upbeat music to the entire city like Japanese gangsters They will make you happy when you commute Without further ado, let’s try get on the train The fare is 3,500JPY/24.5USD per an adult (2000JPY a child) It operates mostly on weekends and 3 times per day I’m taking the second train for the day, departing at 11:44AM with my brother-in-law today who lives in Okayama City! Two cringy Japanese men join the children train, omg… You take off shoes on board the train Every table gets a mini Willson It’s a Bento box but empty It’s Halloween season, so there are lots of pumpkins on board It’s like a party train and so fun! By the way, have you ever seen Chuggington? In Japan, it has been broadcast since 2009, but unfortunately I’m not from that generation so I’ve never seen it There are no reserved seats so you can take any seat Here is a Brewster cabin Looks like Chuggington train debuted in 2019 Just like another British anime “Thomas”, railway anime seems to be very popular in Japan too Moreover, the width of the railway tracks in the UK and Japan is the same We are railway friends forever! We just open the curtains and enjoy window views The train cruise is guided by two attendants We bought “Egg Maracas” things (770JPY/5.39USD) This is used to make some noise Yes, as you may already notice, this train is designed mostly for kids! We hereby set aside our shame and focused on being kids WE ARE BACK IN A KINDERGARTEN To depart, we need to make as much noise as possible to cheer up Willson and Brewster Looks like they are now happy enough to depart! Leaving Okayama Station Wave to everyone at the station! They are professional entertaining kids But I was very surprised when I heard they usually work as a tour guide on a sightseeing bus I supposed they were kindergarten teachers Let’s enjoy the one-hour ride through central Okayama City to the fullest When the train turns a curve, you are told to tilt in the direction of the turn! Otherwise, they cannot turn a curve! Kids will probably do the same thing on every ordinary train ride, haha! According to my brother, it doesn’t rain much in Okayama It’s an awesome city for sightseeing! Many people spend Halloween in Shibuya, but we in Chuggington Okaden’s total railway distance is only 4.7 km/2.92 mi with 2 lines This Chuggington train runs both 2 lines in 1 hour It first arrives at Seikibashi Train then changes direction and heads back to Okayama Station There is a “Love Hotel” outside You get lots of souvenirs so make sure you have some extra space in your bag What is Halloween like in your country? Ours are Chaos Check out your beautiful legs here Okayama’s population is approximately 1.8 million Japan’s 20th most populated prefecture Unlike Tokyo and Osaka, it’s moderately urban and nice Chuggington and Sanrio By an idol group “The Cause Is In Me” If this train were to run in Shibuya, it would become a vulgar adult vehicle We arrived at Okayama Station again for a short break But it seems they lost their energy during what was supposed to be a break So we need to cheer them up again! We dance We tickle them saying “Kocho kocho kocho kocho kocho….” (It’s a Japanese onomatopoeia when tickling) kocho kocho kocho kocho kocho kocho kocho Glad my brother-in-law is now happy We lastly say “Let’s ride!” in Japanglish LETTSU LAIDO They got their energy back Leave Okayama Station again and head for a different destination The driver section is like on an american truck There are so many monitors to support the driver Traffic lights are very close! Okayama was HillValley of “Back to the Future”? The building is now a city music hall but used to a branch of Bank of Japan We are entering residential streets Get even more souvenirs What will I get from the box? I’ve got Harrison The diesel locomotive My brother-in-law got Cormac Train crosses two bridges When crossing bridges, we are told not to miss the Okayama Castle The castle we saw at the beginning of the video It’s a very residential area Oh there it is OKAYAMA CASTLE Sadly, we are coming to an end of the ride Feeling like we are graduating from kindergarten We arrive at Higashiyama terminal at 12:50PM Thank you Chuggington for the unforgettable time And I’ve found the train so cute Chuggington travel still continues to the Chuggington Museum Willson and Brewster turned to be specimen… It’s a very neat and tidy museum Designed by Eiji Mitooka, one of the most famous Japanese cruise train designers His unique perspective on a cruise train is so interesting Here, enjoy the world of Plarail(plastic train toys) Osaka Metro 30000 Series Kintetsu Railway Hinotori Limited Express 80000 Series Tohoku Shinkansen Hayabusa E5 Series Tokaido Shinkansen Doctor Yellow 700 Series Steam locomotive, probably D-51? Yes, I’m a train fan Sunrise Express! The only regular sleeper train in Japan You can enjoy driving some trains But it’s not working properly sometimes In Japan, young children are divided into two groups: those who like cars and those who like trains I started out from trains, then cheated on them with cars when I was in high school, and now I love both Watchig the Eiji Mitooka trains Most of his designed trains are running in Kyushu region Kyushu is like a cruise train island Hopefully, I’d like to ride “Seven Stars” sleeper train but it costs… for example, a two-day stay will cost from 680000 JPY(4760 USD), and a four-day will be over 1,050,000 JPY! I feel like cruise trains are getting too expensive these days Going back to Okayama Station on an ordinary train I got on a lucky train The Chuggington train we rode on is also going back to Okayama Station It’s following this train! And I find this moment so funny and cute It’s like a giant worm Looks like he gave up on following us 2:30PM JR Okayama Station Take a local train for 15 mins and move to Kurashiki Welcome to Kurashiki Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter It’s a preserved merchant quarter that dates back to the Edo Period (1603-1867) when the city served as an important rice distribution center It’s also a beautiful canal area with lots of historical buildings alongside A traditional canal boat ride is expecially famous We didn’t get to ride on it but just enjoyed watching them in the beautiful historical setting It has been said you’re lucky if you get hit on the head with a fan by a “Suinkyo” wearing an old man’s mask in Kurashiki Okayama is especially famous for denim making so you can find a lot of jeans shops in Kurashiki I also have one from Okayama, Momotaro Jeans, a 45000 yen($315) jeans! But they are all Made in Japan and Made in Okayama(Kojima) with quality components Hey what on earth is this Just strolliing around without any plan in Kurashiki The best Thank you for watching the video, as always Let’s do Rock, Scissors, Paper 1 2 3 Paper See you in the next travel!

Thank you to you and your brother willing to sacrifice your dignity and adult sensibilities to share this weird and wonderful attraction with us. I just kept thinking “I hope the train driver is well compensated”😬
The concept of the train seems fun to me. But all the noise, the loud accountments and the music totally destroy if for me. I dont longer want to use this train. Quite the opposite, its a place I really want to avoid now.
Thanks for sharing its so cute! Follower from Pennsylvania USA

チャギントンという字面でまさかイギリス発祥とは思わなかった
Travelgeek, you're quite the trooper riding the Chuggington train.🙂 Japan is unlike anywhere else when it comes to themed rides and especially those geared toward children. I loved the historical walk! What a beautiful place even with the boat ride floating down the river like Venice gondola's. What a lovely place! Thank you for inviting us along.😊
Robbie Dillon : In addition, Dillon is least 30 lbs heavier than the suspect, but Mickey D's will do that to you in a minute.
China does extensive facial recognition on surveillance cameras so that EVERYONE except maybe party officials gets graded on behavior. Points off for littering and worse goes from being shamed online to restricted travel and denial of licenses and services. So if AI and the humans that use it are this bad, how many Chinese have been wrongly accused there?
The blue and yellow train looks like the British Rail Deltic trains from the 1970s
Omg 😂
Your videos are always so interesting I will be waiting patiently for the next one. Thank you 😊
Amazing train. Japan amazing country
Whatever it is, they DO NOT pay that conductor enough money!
オッサン1人で乗るにはハードル高過ぎる…
Paper 😛. I've never watched Chuggington; that was after my time 😛. Thomas the Tank Engine was after my time as well. My childhood was Gerry Anderson, Gigantor, Prince Planet, Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot (Jaianto Robo in Japan), Gamera, Godzilla and Star Man (Kōtetsu no Kyojin in Japan 😛). Those doga on the roof look like the dog from HMV, "His Master's Voice".
Ha! Paper!
Алкоголик увидев такой трамвай сразу бросит пить, а наркоман бросит употреблять наркотики 😂
I marvel at the contrast between the dreariness of the Japanese office and much of the urban landscape, and the endearing whimsicality also present in abundance.
