TAICHUNG (Taiwan News) — Soup Curry King, a Hokkaido favorite and “Supreme Soup Curry Representative” with a 3.69 Tabelog score, has opened its first international location in Taichung.

The Taiwan outlet launches as a “plus” version meant to signal a brand evolution. The shop moves beyond traditional looks to a modern Japanese artsy style, with hand-applied plaster that creates a calm, refined interior and showcases craft.

The kitchen is an all-electric, high-standard setup using IH induction to stabilize heat and flavor. The brand says each bowl follows its Hokkaido SOP to match the flagship’s depth and aroma.

The broth uses a “W Soup (Double Soup)” base built on pork and chicken bones, enriched with kelp, bonito, and dried sardines for a rich yet light profile. It simmers for about 18 hours with spices and produce, yielding limited daily batches.

Taiwan’s menu adds a deluxe standard of 10 seasonal vegetables — double the Japan base — with items such as butternut squash, lotus root, and okra pre-treated to deepen savory notes.

Prices start at NT$280 (US$9), aligned with the brand’s pricing in Japan.

The signature fried chicken leg soup curry features legs pressure-stewed until the meat pulls from the bone, then quickly fried for crisp skin and a tender interior.

The cherry duck breast soup curry is exclusive to Taiwan, pairing low-temperature duck with the spice blend for a richer, juicier texture.

A beef sukiyaki soup curry layers sukiyaki’s savory-sweet profile onto the broth for a fuller, rounded finish. Turmeric rice and a yogurt-based lassi are suggested pairings.
