Kobe Airport: The Travel Hack You Wish You Knew Sooner

In this video, we’re going to continue in Kobe as we exit from Kobe airport to Okinawa. After the epic lunch and picking up a luggage, we made our way underground to the main station in Kobe central to catch the porter line. This is a automated train service that takes 18 minutes to cover 8 km. But on this day, we were running a little bit late. Ki airport is 18 minutes away, but we are running tight on time. So, sweating in a wife beater. Not fun. By my own protocols said I would go to the airport 90 minutes before departure time for a domestic flight. However, in this case, we’re cutting it close with 1 hour to the departure time. It is usually me that just looks worried and sweating profoundly. Everyone else is very relaxed. The Porter Lion train ride is rather scenic and you get to see quite a lot as this is a airport on a man-made island that was made in 2006 and there’s a long bridge leading up to it as well. So, I just hung in there, enjoyed the view, enjoyed the scenes, having faith that we’ll make it there on time. It is always much better to be on the train than running to the train to get to the airport. And here I am just hanging along as we go past this beautiful bridge, enjoying the ocean view and getting closer and closer to the airport, knowing that the departure time was really close, but I have faith we’re going to make it. The train has air, but I’ve been running, so I was feeling quite hot. Anyway, we’re going to make our way to terminal one, which is the domestic terminal, and terminal 2 is the international. You can use your speaker card to pay for the train ride to the airport by just scanning it on the entry machines. Here we are arriving at terminal 1, which is very close to terminal 2, about 3 minutes walk. Let me zoom into our location, which is past that bridge. And here we are, Kobe airport. Yep. Let’s just get to the runway while we at it. So, let’s go inside terminal one and see how the airport layout looks like. Right in front of me on top is the departure board with all the flights and below it is the entry point to the seven gates. I am flying Anna Airlines which is on the left side and I have to go drop off my luggage at the airport now. Finally checked in and that was a bit of a stressful mission as we have three pieces of luggage but they’re very strict on 23 kg. So my luggage is 27. going to have to uh take out the extra bag we have, which is a foldable check-in bag. So, yeah, that really helps saves the day. Uh so, now we checked in, ready to go. Flight leaves in 45 minutes, and I don’t have to be at the gate till um 20 minutes before. So, good times. Good times. Check in soon. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Surprise, [Β __Β ] Oh, hell no. When life throws you one of these, just be patient and look on the other side because there is always an alternative. Side Kobe Airport Terminal One, there’s two stores. One is a duty-free and one is a small cafe. Let us go check out this duty-free store and see what it’s all about. Made it inside and now uh trying to find some food. We got all these snacks made of seaweed, rice crackers, something like that. I’m not really sure. Uh, what exactly am I taking on board this 2-hour flight? Should I get it or should I go? That is the question I want to know. Luckily, I had a great lunch, so maybe I’ll just skip the food. Having traveled on lowcost carriers around Europe for so long, Faraz had forgotten that Anna and Japan Airlines actually provide food on board. Airport is small and very efficient. Everything went on time and even boarding was smooth as this boarding bridge was ice cool and very well airond conditioned which was a relief as it was very hot outside. We boarded the plane and said Seyonara to Kobe. What a beautiful city. What a pleasant stay. But most importantly, this airport was so efficient and a great place to catch your flight instead of catching the fast train. Anyway, we are off to Okinawa. So, see you in the next episode. And if you have any questions about Kobe airport, comment below and I’ll be happy to answer that. Take care of yourself. You’re standing in Tokyo. You need to be in Kobe. You face the choice: the overpriced, back-breaking Shinkansen (a.k.a. the Steel Eel), or a plane to an airport built on its own island.

We chose the island. And the verdict is in: Flying domestically in Japan is often cheaper, far better for luggage, and less stressful than the train.

In this video, we deep-dive into the magical, absurdly convenient world of Kobe Airport (UKB) to prove the travel hack you didn’t know you needed.

Facts you get in advance:
πŸ’°The Price: We do the soul-crushing math on why a flight is often cheaper than that high-speed rail ticket.
🧳The Luggage Liberation: Experience the joy of checking a suitcase instead of fighting a Luggage Hunger Games battle in the aisle.
πŸ•‰οΈ The Zen Zone: Kobe Airport operates with the quiet, efficient calm of a Swiss watch. The train station? A vortex of human traffic.

Stop suffering. Start flying.
