Japanese police authorities plan to ask Thai police to allow them to investigate the mother of a Thai girl who was allegedly forced to provide sexual services in Tokyo.
Thai police are scheduled to arrive in Japan on Tuesday to discuss how to proceed with the investigation with their Japanese counterparts.
The mother took her 12-year-old daughter to a massage parlor in Tokyo and left her there. She then departed Japan without her daughter, and is currently detained in Taiwan.
The manager of the private-room massage parlor was arrested on suspicion of forcing the girl to work there in violation of the Labor Standards Act.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police have been investigating the mother’s involvement, as the case may amount to human trafficking.
Talks between the two countries’ police organizations are scheduled through Thursday. They are likely to visit the massage parlor together.
They are also expected to agree to cooperate in uncovering how brokers are systematically involved, as well as other details of the suspected human trafficking.
