Naomi Osaka recently reacted to Taylor Townsend appointing Dominique Wells as the creative director for her apparel line. Townsend launched her own self-designed clothing line during the 2025 French Open after facing difficulties in securing an apparel sponsor.
Townsend’s tennis kit features a “TT” logo, representing her initials. She developed this kit and logo in collaboration with fashion designer Alexander John, who has previously worked with brands such as Puma and LA Gear.
Naomi Osaka Reacts to Taylor Townsend Appointing Dominique Wells As Creative Director of Her Clothing Line
This year, Townsend wore a self-designed “Phoenix kit” at the 2025 US Open, featuring a black outfit adorned with flame details. She explained that the phoenix inspired her kit because it symbolizes her ability to overcome doubts and discrimination, emerging as a stronger player and person.
Recently, Townsend took to social media to announce that she has appointed Wells as the creative director of her clothing line, with the goal of expanding its reach. Wells has her own brand and creative firm called Dead Dirt.
Wells has previously collaborated with artists such as Rico Nasty, Brent Faiyaz, and Pusha-T. She also co-hosted Glamour Magazine’s Women of the Year event and was named the Creative Director for the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team, the Washington Spirit, in March 2024.
“So excited to welcome @domowells as my Creative Director! Every match is an opportunity to make a statement, and together, each look will be a reflection of my approach to this game – with confidence and power. Grateful to all who’ve contributed to growing my brand on and off the court. STAY TUNED… 🎾💐📺🔥,” Townsend captioned her Instagram post.
Townsend and Wells’ collaboration prompted a two-word reaction from four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka, who is also known for her fashion sense, both on and off the court.
“Oh okayyyyy 🔥,” Osaka commented.

On the tennis side of things, Osaka’s last tournament of the 2025 season was the Japan Women’s Open, where she reached the quarterfinals but had to withdraw due to a leg injury, thereby ending her season prematurely.
Meanwhile, Townsend most recently competed in the doubles event at the 2025 Toray Pan Pacific Open alongside Ellen Perez. They were the top seeds in the tournament and advanced to the semifinals before being eliminated by the eventual champions, the fourth-seeded duo of Tímea Babos and Luisa Stefani.
Townsend To Begin Her Doubles Campaign at WTA Finals 2025
Townsend is currently in Riyadh for the 2025 WTA Finals, which began on November 1, 2025, and will run until November 8, 2025, at the King Saud University Indoor Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Townsend has qualified for the doubles event alongside Kateřina Siniaková. Last year, they finished as the runners-up to Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe.
The doubles event at the season-ending tournament features two groups: Group Martina Navratilova and Group Liezel Huber. The Navratilova group consists of Sara Errani/Jasmine Paolini, Veronika Kudermetova/Elise Mertens, Hsieh Su-wei/Jeļena Ostapenko, and Asia Muhammad/Demi Schuurs. Meanwhile, the Huber group includes Townsend/Siniaková, Dabrowski/Routliffe, Mirra Andreeva/Diana Shnaider, and Babos/Stefani.
Townsend and Siniaková will begin their campaign at the 2025 WTA Finals by facing the pair of Babos and Stefani in the first round robin stage match.
