A Japanese restaurant in Brookline is closing its doors after 27 years of service.

FuGaKyu Japanese Cuisine announced on Facebook on Friday it is shutting down on Nov. 5 for “personal reasons.”

“With deepest gratitude, we thank every patron who has graced our tables and shared countless memories with us over the years,” the post reads. “This chapter may close, but it marks the dawn of exciting new journeys ahead for our team and family.”

FuGaKyu Japanese Cuisine opened in 1998 and features a menu with a wide variety of sushi, ranging from ebi (shrimp) sashimi to their spicy yellow tail maki. The menu also features other well known foods in Japanese cuisine, such as teriyaki-style meat and katsu: a seafood or meat dish that is dipped into panko crumb batter and deep-fried.

The restaurant also had two other locations, one in Lynnfield and one in Sudbury. Both locations have since shut down.
