Egypt’s Ambassador to Japan Ragy el Etreby praised the unprecedented level of Japanese participation in the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) via four high-level delegations representing the Tokyo Imperial Palace, the Japanese government, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
This came during Etreby’s meeting with Kunimitsu Ayano, Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, who expressed her eagerness to visit Cairo as a special envoy of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to attend the museum’s official inauguration ceremony.

Etreby emphasized that this high-level participation reflects Japan’s status as a strategic partner and a key development financier of this world-class cultural project.
The ambassador underlined that enhancing economic, investment and tourism cooperation with Japan is a top priority for Egypt.
He highlighted Egypt’s position as a gateway to Arab, African and European markets.
According to the Egyptian embassy in Tokyo, the meeting also discussed humanitarian developments in Gaza.
