Sendai Solo Travel Vlog | Exploring the Best Cafes. Coffee Shops & Sigtseeing spots in Japan

Today we are exploring Sendai! The name of the cafe means “grapefruit” in French. The cafe is located on the third floor, with several signs, and ducks, proclaim the cafe’s specialty – pancakes. The menu has a variety of options, more in the evenings when they turn down the lights and start serving cocktails. I got the matcha brownie. Like every place in Japan, Sendai has no lack of cafes. The store is a 5-minute walk from Aoba-dori Ichibancho Station. The brick walls and the bustling atmosphere inside the store are visible through the large windows. The store has an open concept with the bar in the middle of the space. And a small dresser selling coffee beans with cute animal packaging. Darestore has three stores in Sendai, but Darestore Coffee & Eatery is a store that focuses not only on coffee but also on its food menu. I decided on the seasonal croissant, figs, with a delicous latte. The atmosphere changes depending on the time of day, making it a place you’ll want to visit every day After that delicious breakfast, I will make my way to my next destination. When you are in sendai you can use the Loople for sightseeing. It stops at all the important sightseeing spots of Sendai. From the busstop its a small hike towards the mausoleum. It’s surrounded in a beautiful green forrest, almost like you are not in the city anymore. Zuihoden is the mausoleum of Date Masamune, one of the most powerful feudal lords of the Edo Period (1603-1868). His son and grandson, Date Tadamune and Date Tsunamune, are entombed in nearby mausoleums. Zuihoden was designed in the ornate style of the Momoyama Period. It features intricate woodwork and a rich variety of vivid colors. I spend a long time just looking at all the little details, discovering something new every time. Behind the main mausoleum are the tombs of his sons, just a short walk away. Massive cedar trees surround the paths in the area and are meant to symbolize the long history of the Date clan. Masamune’s son and grandson are entombed in smaller mausoleums designed in the same style. If you happen to visit one of Sendai’s most interesting sights, Zuihoden, then stop by Zuiho-ji. The temple grounds may not be big, but the greenery and peacefulness makes you walk around for a while. Admiring the garden surrounding it. About a 20 minute walk, accross the river, from the mausoleum is nice relaxing cafe overlooking the river. As you go downstairs from the entrance, you’ll be impressed by the open atmosphere created by the high ceiling. The retro and artistic interior decorated by the grand piano and stylish desk lamps. Thanks to the location on a slope of the riverbank, terrace seats at which you can overlook the Hirose River are available even though the cafe is underground. You can try the sweets that go well with the classic blended coffee if you have no idea what to order. I decided to get the cheesecake with a cafe latte. Walking back towards the city centre, to visit one more historical sight in the city. Bansuisodo is a notable historical building in Sendai, Japan, constructed in 1922. It showcases a French Renaissance architectural style, which was quite unique for its time in Japan. Bansuisodo is the preserved residence where Bansui spend his final three years. Bansui Doi, known as the author of the lyrics to “Kojo no Tsuki” (Moon Over the Ruined Castle) and other works, was a poet born in Sendai. His prized possessions, photos, calligraphic works and paintings are on display here. A coffee shop which roasts its own beans on-site. Stylishly decorated, the shop’s shelves are also filled with coffee beans and other coffee goods available for purchase. Customers can use tablet computers at the front of the shop to select their bean type, extraction method, and make other finely tuned adjustments to their order. They are also known for their meat pies, which were delicious! It is time to head back home after exploring Sendai. At Sendai Station there are often food fairs going on at the main hall, this time it was sweets. Great place to buy a souvenir. With the Shinkansen it takes about 2 hours to get to Ueno station. Thank you for watching and I will see you in the next video.
