8-Hour Fukuoka Itinerary

If you only had 8 hours to spend in Fukoko, here’s what you can do. First stop is to explore Hakata Oldtown. I visited Tuchoji Temple and it is believed to be the oldest temple in Japan, founded by a Japanese Buddhist monk, Kobo Dashi. Entering is completely free and after that, I just kept going wherever my foot took me and ended up at Shinshen Ramen to have Hakata style tonkatu ramen. And yes, I get the hype. The soup is rich but not too overwhelming and the noodles they use are thin, too. We ordered yoza on the side which made it even more perfect. And then we headed to Daimo, one of the trendiest and most fashionable districts in Fukoka. It reminds me of Tokyo’s Shimokazawa. It’s cool, hipster, lots of things to do. If cafe hopping is your thing, there are lots of options here. They’re cute, small, and they actually have good coffee, too. And we also came across Ankuma Cafe, which for many is, yes, a tourist trap. Literally a cup of matcha cost 575 pesos, but still I enjoyed being served by a bear and playing random games with a bear while I wait for my order. I enjoyed it. So, okay, no regrets. It was worth it. There are also so many places to shop here. Most of it are vintage shops, literally all next to each other. The stuff so unique, and I even got this quirky denim jacket I have yet to wear soon. And then we lined up to try the famous I’m Donut. And yes, I get the hype. It was good. It was so fluffy and soft. literally melts in your mouth. I personally like Nama donuts. The plain one was the best one for me. I tried one of the unique flavors with salted egg and honestly was not my cup of tea, but the plain one I’d recommend. Last stop was Kawabata Shopping Arcade where you can find lots of shops, eeries, and we also stopped by at Kushida Ginga Shrine.
