Come Join Me In… Kagoshima
[Music] So, I’ve just arrived at Kagashima and just even from the train from the airport, you can see it’s billowing behind it, the smoke pouring out. It’s quite something. Let’s see what’s actually here. So, I’ve now arrived in Kagashima and also just on the train on the way here. It is startling to see the volcano with the smoke blooming out of it. I look forward to getting a bit of a closer look. Maybe not too close. But anyway, there’s a few things to do in this city. volcano being one of them. So, let’s go. So, it is a warm day, but I am walking to my first destination, which is a lovely Japanese garden. And just the whole way on this walk, we’re going to see that site. There’s clouds around it, sure, but there’s also like the smoke coming out of it um seen sometimes. It’s a pretty active place. So, might be going there in the next few days. But for now, just going to look a bit along this wall. [Music] I do like this walk cuz it’s just you can see the ocean and the mountain. It’s a bit strange. It’s just the longest road ever. But this is the only way to get the one to put a bounty on the bottom. It goes halfway. It saves you like 15 minutes. So, may as well. This is the first time I’ve seen a trust system at a shrine. If you want an Emma, there’s a box you can open up and get one. Put the money straight in here. I mean, makes sense, but it’s it’s still it’s cool to see. And this is like this isn’t where I’ve come to. This is just a random shrine that happens to be along the wall. So, I thought I was just walking to a Japanese garden, but apparently I’m in Sang Gun, which is a world heritage site. Um, a big old place to explore. So, I’m here now. Enjoy. [Music] [Music] That’s So, I’ve kind of stumbled across something much bigger than I expected by coming here. Like the house in there was a pretty cool place. Saw some nice things. There’s no garden yet. It’s nice to just stumble across stuff. It was a little pricey at 1,600 yen, but I think I’ve had the work for that so far. I’m not even doing the garden. The house is lovely to look around. I love just being able to stumble across stuff. This is kind of a half stumble. I didn’t know that I was, you know, there’s also a lot of tour groups. There’s a much more well-known place than I imagined cuz it’s so beautiful. We haven’t even reached the garden parlor yet. Well, the main garden. There is Sakuroima. This is one of the viewpoints for it. It’s quite a sight. Daddy, daddy. [Music] So, I saw a sign around here earlier saying that back in history they actually got someone to chisel into a rock. Three words. It means big stone. I was like, “Okay, how impressive is that?” Now, I actually seen the stone cuz I couldn’t see it earlier. It’s there. Chisely into that monstrosity among all that forest. Okay, now I’m impressed. So, I like that where we’re heading now to a water deity shrine to a dead end. And I really enjoy that there was just water flowing away from it. That just probably a good reason for it. But I I appreciate the synergy. I do believe this is the shrine. It’s unlike one I’ve ever seen. And of course, there is a cat shrine. So, into the cat farm. Got my Emma in here. And they also gave free chopsticks, cooking chopsticks just for going in. I mean, I’ll take it. That’s uh I don’t have much use that is right now, but maybe one day. Yeah, there’s the area. I think we’ve seen it now. It’s on our way to the exit and then back home. I think that might just be it for today. I think so. When I come to a new place, I don’t often plan what I’m going to do too much. I don’t know this was here. I kind of arrive, settle in, and then the first day I arrive, find out what to do. So, I think I’ll just go back to the hotel, research what to do with it. Oh, and the main reason I’ve got to buy a new bag cuz the zip on this is broken. Um, so either Google if I can replace that in a hotel or just buy a new one. I’ll see. But yeah, so tomorrow got some things on my finally I got myself some pontaname which is a Kagoshima specific sweet. Let’s see if I can open it. Did say specifically eat it with the wrapper on. So it’s very tough. It does have a nice little taste. I approve. All [Applause] right, arrived in the room and this is a first. I’ve left my luggage at many hotels front desk. This is the first time they’ve delivered it for me. I came upstairs and was literally like, “Oh, this is the time I forgot to say, “Oh, you got my luggage.” If I’d have said that, they would have said some Japanese I didn’t understand. So, that’s lucky. Um, room seems, you know, wide. That’s fridge movement could be a bit better. Um, how big of a bath we got? Well, that is the smallest bath I’ve ever seen. Um, I’ve actually never seen a uh a Japanese like business hotel without a bath. So, that’s surprising. I didn’t I didn’t want to bath today, but that’s fine. And for a view, we have buildings of an we can see an APA hotel. Oh my god. Incredible. Um, yeah, this is fine. The award for strangest thing I’ve ever seen in a hotel includes What is this rusted thing doing in my room? [Music] Well, today’s the first head to a tapioca store. didn’t have to open it in store, but it’s still wide open as you can see. It’s day two and we are heading with our friend Pascal to Sakurima over there. It’s so much smoke/clouds in the sky. I don’t know which is which. Makes for an interesting landscape. Let’s see what’s on the island. Thank you for using this fairy will. that this shrine used to literally be somewhere then it got destroyed by lava. It’s cool. We can see just past it. Decent little view of the bay at the top. You know, I wasn’t sure if there would be, but can confirm there is a convenient on the islands. I’m sure I’ll find out somewhere else. But these sto have to be 100y old magma, right? Pitch black. It’s pretty cool. I think it’s the first time I’ve seen a throne in the wild and god are they loud. Now there is a free public foot back there. I don’t typically like anything baby warm outside in the summer/ feels like the summer still but this is just about right. It’s just kind of tempered in the way that I like. So and it’s got quite a view. Although ironically, the ground is actually warmer than the onset. here. Let’s help. Honestly, even having been up, this might be my favorite part. Just the fact you can see the literal magma that’s been there and the green wings like come over again and the sea on the other side is such a beautiful view. Don’t know if I’m going to walk the whole way, but it sure is nice. And also, other than my voice and footsteps, extremely quiet. I can just hear the insects on one side and the ocean on the other. Hey,
Kagoshima is such an iconic city, with every day dominated by a view of the volcano across the sea. Come join me explore the city – and the volcano beyond!
