60 Days in Japan | Kyoto Daytrip | Travel Vlog | EP. 28

So, why am I eating junk food at a random Japanese McDonald’s listening to them kick Eley Brothers at 2:00 in the morning? Let me explain. I hadn’t planned on it, but I decided to go to Kyoto. Tomorrow I’m heading to Hiroshima, and tonight I need to do laundry. So, that gives me 10 hours to get to six pinpoints. Not a lot of time, so let’s figure this out. Every time I’ve been to Kyoto, I’ve toured the east side of the city. So, today I go west to Matsun Taisha Shrine. This is one of the oldest buildings in Kyoto that survived its original construction. Over,300 years old. One of the monks just gave me a quick tour and explained something I never knew. The difference between a temple and a shrine. A temple is a Buddhist place of worship for the teachings of Buddha, while a shrine is a Shinto place of worship for Shinto gods called Kamis. He also told me to go see the sacred and blessed waterfall at the base of the mountain. This one, apparently, it’s renowned for providing the best water for famous Kyoto Saki. Now I understand why the saki barrels are here. Context. Now let’s try to play with the monkeys again. After a 30-minute walk up Mount Iada, you’ll summit and get a beautiful view of Kyoto. And you’ll be greeted by these little guys. They’re playful but not curious. They have to have human fatigue. I know the feeling. By the time I made it back down the mountain, it was almost late afternoon. I decided to send Leroy down the Katsura River for some footage. I’ll make an extended video for that because I still have four pinpoints left today. To see those, check out part two. But right now, I’m hungry.

Part I – I decide to take a last-minute daytrip to Kyoto. In the morning, I visit the Matsunoo-taisha Shrine and Shofuen Gardens, the Arashiyama Monkey Park, and take Leroy on a flight down the Katsura River. A very relaxing morning!

Welcome to Pinpoints. I’m Rory and this is my travel VLOG. After 30 years of living and traveling overseas, I share my journey of leaving America and retiring abroad. A lifestyle of carefree travel, open itineraries, and global citizenship.
