Surviving a Typhoon on Japan’s 35-Hour Vending Machine Ferry🚢 Tokyo → Fukuoka
This video is… Hello everyone👋 This is Taiyaki🐟 How are you all doing? I’m at Tokyo Station now. Today, I’ll take a bus from Stop No. 6 in front of the Yaesu South Exit of Tokyo Station, and then get on a ferry. I’m taking the bus bound for the Tokyo Port Ferry Terminal. I was so hungry that I bought a hamburger, but just then the bus arrived. I need to eat quickly 🫤 haha Let’s get on! There’s a restroom and a power outlet. Nice! By the way, I paid 350 yen using a transportation IC card. Here we go! The bus stops at Kokusai-Tenjijo Station and Tokyo Big Sight before reaching the ferry terminal. This video is a response to a request I received about two years ago. It took some time, but thank you so much for the request 😊 Thank you to everyone who always comments and watches my videos! This bus doesn’t require reservations, but seats are first-come, first-served. There are only two buses a day—one in the morning and one in the evening. At this time, including me, there were only about five passengers, so I think it rarely fills up. On this channel, I upload travel-related videos such as ferries, transportation, and hotels, so please subscribe if you’re interested! It takes about 35 minutes from Tokyo Station to the ferry terminal. The sunset is so beautiful. Let’s go check out the ferry up close. This is the ferry I’ll be boarding today, “Dougo.” Vehicles are already boarding. Let’s head inside! It’s my first time visiting the Tokyo Port Ferry Terminal. It’s quite convenient since it’s close to central Tokyo. Issuing my ticket. This upper floor is the departure area. Apparently, a TV drama will be filmed here soon 😳 Announcement for boarding. Here we go. Checked in! Unfortunately, a typhoon is approaching during this trip 😭 The staff told me that this specific ferry will be most affected. The ferry will be heading right toward the typhoon, so heavy rocking is expected. I’m nervous, but I’ll try to enjoy it as a rare experience. My room this time is a second-class capsule room, priced at 19,470 yen. Here’s my room. This is what it looks like inside. A small shelf. A hanger. A pocket. One power outlet. By the way, I received a pack of fancy tissues when boarding. The pillow isn’t very thick, but the material differs on each side. Two sheets. A blanket. A comforter. When you close the curtain, it looks like this. I stepped outside. There’s an announcement about precautions due to the typhoon. The deck on this ferry isn’t very spacious. It ends here. You can’t go further, so there aren’t many spots to explore. As expected of Tokyo Port—the city night view nearby is stunning. What’s that? After looking it up, it seems to be the Ferris wheel at Kasai Rinkai Park. My first time seeing it. We’ve started moving! The 35-hour journey begins now! 👋 Oh! I can see the Tokyo Skytree. Feels like a little bonus. From a different angle, you can also see Tokyo Tower. Mr. Tokyo Tower. Personally, I prefer the look of Tokyo Tower. I don’t know why, but I just can’t love the Tokyo Skytree. lol Which one do you all prefer? Soon after departure, we got a bridge-under event ! That’s the Tokyo Gate Bridge. It connects the Outer Central Breakwater Reclamation Area and Wakasu in Koto Ward. If you’re not into bridge-passing scenes, feel free to watch this part at double speed haha. By the way, the bridge has a pedestrian walkway, so you can actually cross it on foot. From afar, it looks like two dinosaurs facing each other, so it’s also nicknamed the “Dinosaur Bridge.” The moon and the bridge. Right below it. Yay! Bridge crossing complete. Haha. One of the best parts of ferry trips is everyone enjoying bridge crossings together. Everyone’s taking photos of the bridge—it’s fun! You can see Haneda Airport. You can even see planes flying overhead from the ferry. A notice stating that shaking is expected here tonight due to the typhoon’s impact. 😘 Here’s the information desk and the shop. The shop is quite small and has only a few items. Recently, I’ve been interested in these “Goshuin-style ferry stamps.” 御船印 (Gosen-in) are illustrated stamps unique to each ferry that you can collect. This is the 御船印帳 (gosen-in-chō) — a book where you paste and collect the stamps. This is the Gosenin Gallery. There are quite a lot of varieties! Here we have one of the ferry’s main attractions — the vending machines! There’s no restaurant onboard, so everything you eat or drink comes from these machines. For now, I’ll have dinner. Tonight’s dinner is taco rice. I’ll explain the vending machines in more detail tomorrow. I’m starving right now, so let me eat first! Too hot! 🥵 Done. Here’s the taco rice (700 yen). I usually don’t eat frozen food, but I’m surprised at how good this one tastes. It’s a bit disappointing that there’s not much topping or volume. Partly because I was hungry, but it tastes great. ★★★★☆ This product is made by Nippn Corporation, but it seems like each item in the vending machines comes from different companies — maybe the ferry operator selects them and stocks them all together? After eating, you throw away your own trash. Before I forget, I’ll buy a taxi voucher for when I arrive. 550 yen. There’s also a large public bath on board, so I’ll go in before sleep. Photography is not permitted, so I quote images from the official website. It wasn’t very big, but it felt clean. Shampoo and other amenities were available. I wanted to look outside before bed, but the area was closed off due to the typhoon 😢 Oh, by the way, since no one else came to this room after all, I got it all to myself lol Time to sleep now. The ceiling is low enough to reach, but leaving the curtain open makes it feel less cramped. Just after dozing off, I woke up from the ship’s rocking. It might not be obvious on screen, but it feels like small and big rocking come one after another. iPhone’s image stabilization is amazing haha. This is the first time I’ve experienced this kind of rocking. Maybe because it’s the cheapest room, the sound of the movement is quite loud 🫨 Good morning ☀️ I’m so glad morning came without any incident lol Even my socks are happy. We’re sailing near the Kii Peninsula. The sea surface is still a bit wavy. Got ya. Now, let me introduce the inside of the ship that I couldn’t show you yesterday. This is the Plaza area. There are plenty of places to sit. This is the same information desk and shop we saw yesterday — closed right now. These are the vending machines. These machines sell drinks, including alcohol. Snacks and side dishes vending machine. This one sells main dishes. Each machine has a letter code, and you use the corresponding microwave to heat your item. Machine B sells udon and soba dishes. Here’s C. D mostly has pasta. E sells mostly rice-based dishes. This vending machine offers snacks and side dishes. There’s miso soup too. Cup noodles. Ice cream. Alcohol sales stop after 11 p.m. Here’s the microwave area. You use the microwave corresponding to the vending machine where you bought your item. For example, the list of items purchased from the C vending machine has other numbers written on it, and pressing that number starts the pre-set heating time automatically. They also provide seasonings like soy sauce and mayonnaise etc. There’s even habanero sauce — surprising! Plates, chopsticks, and soup cups are also available. Here’s the water dispenser — it also serves tea. (Free) Trash bins are placed here and over there. You pour leftover noodle soup into the small sink corner. Still in the middle of the ferry tour, but it’s mealtime again. Mochimochi “classic Napolitan pasta” (by Nisshin Seifun Welna). Done! You can already tell the noodles look chewy(mochimochi). It tastes great — and as expected, the noodles are pleasantly chewy. The downside is that there aren’t many ingredients. Since the portion is small, it’s probably best for when you’re just a little hungry. The sky is beautiful now that the typhoon has passed. Let’s continue the ferry tour. By the way, only this fifth floor is open to passengers. The sixth floor looks like this — off limits. Here’s the game corner near the vending machine area. There are quite a few places to sit. There’s no Wi-Fi, so enjoy a digital detox. By the way, the storm has completely passed by now, and the rocking has stopped. Doing suspicious loops for fun. Here’s the smoking area — you can enjoy the ocean view while smoking. Coin lockers. These lockers return your 100-yen coin after use. The larger lockers don’t give your coins back. They’re deep enough for large luggage. Restroom. This is a ferry-specific toilet for vomiting. The lid doesn’t open automatically, but it does have a washlet. Next, let’s look at the opposite side of the ship. Relaxation area. There are vending machines here too. This one sells amenities and motion sickness medicine. Laundry room. Automatic wash-and-dry for 600 yen (detergent and softener are added automatically). Now that the ship tour is over, I’ll work on editing the video! After a while, a baseball game started — Dodgers vs. Phillies. You can get internet access when we’re close enough to land. Let’s watch the game with some snacks. Salmon skin chips. It’s my first time trying them — tastes a bit like rice crackers and really good! It says “spicy mayo flavor,” but I couldn’t taste much of it, so I added some more, haha. So relaxing. Looks like others behind me are watching the same game too. Maybe because of the typhoon yesterday, the waves still seem a bit rough. Once we’re out of range, the internet connection is gone again. Too sad. Let’s try this snack that’s apparently popular worldwide. Yamitsuki-mame( addictive soybeans) Beans coated with a sweet and spicy glaze. They’re indeed tasty and hard to stop eating. lol Just when the internet came back… The Dodgers lost. Before long, Tokushima Port came into view. I bought the Gosen-in I mentioned yesterday. From now on, collecting these ferry stamps will be part of the fun of traveling. Arrived at Tokushima Port. If you’re going to Fukuoka, you cannot disembark here en route. Well, even if you could, there doesn’t seem to be much around anyway. Since I’m bored, I’ll have some soba noodles. The way to make noodles here is a bit different. Kakiage soba by Katsumata Seimen. First, prepare hot water — about 90% of a cup full. Add the soup base. Pour the hot water into the container. Then heat it in the microwave, and it’s ready. Kakiage tempura. Overall, it’s pretty average — not bad though. Who’s that? Ah, it’s Mr. Bird. Departing Tokushima Port. Now heading for our final destination — Shinmoji Port in Fukuoka. Just uploaded the capsule hotel video! Check it out! 👀 Now trying out this dish that was chosen as No.1 on TV — grilled salted hormone (beef intestines). No.2 Atsuta shio horumon — 800 yen. Beer. Cheers! Nicely salted and delicious — makes the perfect snack with beer. I can understand why it ranked first. The sun is setting. Tonight’s dinner is pasta that apparently ranked third on a TV show. It’s called Zetsubou Pasta — “Despair Pasta.” The name comes from the idea that it’s tasty even when you’re in despair. Heat it with this side facing up. Done. Hmm, looks a bit different from what I expected. The photo must have been a bit too good haha. Mackerel. The other ingredients are chopped. The taste is definitely delicious, so I could eat it even when I’m feeling hopeless. Perfect pasta for the day you get divorced! I just took a bath, so it’s ice cream time. There are so many tempting options — but between these two… I choose you! Morinaga Choco Monaka Jumbo. The chocolate layer wasn’t as thick as I imagined. Taste is decent though. Goodnight for the second night. Good morning ☀️ It’s just past 5 a.m. This ferry arrives at 5:35, so it’s almost time to get off. The door of the other room is open. That’s a nice room — I’d love to stay in one like that someday 🤭 The suites are quite pricey, but hopefully I can review one for this YouTube channel someday. At 5 a.m., it’s still dark outside. Arrived at Shinmoji Port. After disembarking, since there’s no shuttle bus, I’ll take a taxi to Moji Station. Hand over the ticket Two taxis are waiting. Riding with another person The police are here — I wonder what happened? 🤨 Arrived at the station after about 20 minutes. Moji Station. KFC is still closed, but Colonel Sanders is doing just fine. Finally, here’s a bonus video of a crow. This crow was drinking bubble tea. Ah! Thank you so much for watching until the end. If you like this video, please subscribe to my channel and like👍 the video.
Until the next video, I wish you all the best! Eat vegetables!٩( ᐛ )و
In this video, I took a two-night trip on the Ocean Tokyu Ferry “Dougo” from Tokyo to Fukuoka via Tokushima, right in the path of a typhoon. (The ship rocked so much in the typhoon that I felt a bit seasick the next morning.)
A unique feature of this ferry is that it has no restaurant—all food comes from vending machines.
I recommend it for anyone wanting to enjoy a leisurely ferry trip from Tokyo Station to Fukuoka or Tokushima. Please watch until the end!

非常喜歡這次的影片,出發前東京的夜景很美麗!船上販賣機的食物感覺都很好吃😋船搖晃應該很可怕吧😨
we went in a cruise through a hurricane before lol they wouldnt give us a refund back lol if we canceld lol
So glad the typhoon didnt make it too rough. I loved this video. ❤ When you were eating those chips and dipped it into the spicy mayo, did the ferry have that mayo or did you have to get that out of the vending machine too? 😅 When the ferry was shaking and you almost fell I yelled "oh no dont fall" at my tv. Did you hear it? 😂 Your sense of humor comes off well and its cute and so funny. ❤❤❤
Taco Rice doesn't have 'much topping or volume"; I could make 2 meals out of that bowl and still have leftovers. 😁
I really enjoyed this one! It's always interesting to see the different ferries in operation. I don't know that I could get on a ship during a typhoon. I'm glad everything turned out well.
Keep going. The videos are always fun to watch! ❤
I enjoyed the video!!! many Gretings from Santiago de Chile!!!
