EXPLORING Osaka’s Hidden Gems in Shinsekai and Denden Town? 🇯🇵

We’ve heard Osaka is Japan’s most exciting city, and today we’re finding out why. From neon streets packed with sizzling food stalls and anime shops to quiet ancient shrines tucked between skyscrapers, this city has something for everyone. So, come along with us as we explore the vibrant heart of southern Japan. It is our first day here in Osaka, Japan, and we’re going to bring you along with us for everything we can get done on our first day here. And we are starting here in Shinszakai Street. And Shinszakai roughly translates as new world. And it was developed in 1903 and apparently was inspired by the French capital city Paris. And the tower in the background is one of the district’s most iconic sites and also allegedly slightly resembles the Eiffel Tower slightly. So I think these markets are mainly known for the traditional Japanese food stalls, but it looks like right now a lot of them are closed on this side. Maybe they open again in the evening. But all along the left hand side all the way down are lovely little stalls. And some of them look like they could be selling vintage clothes as well. So it is still quite a nice vibe during the day. Although it is pretty quiet. [Music] This place is definitely the most colorful place we’ve seen so far in Japan. There is so much color. And I don’t know what this baby means. Is it like a symbol of Osaka or just of this area? But they are everywhere and massive. I mean, cute and creepy at the same time. Yeah. But yeah, it’s so cute. I can only imagine how busy this is when it’s not raining or in the evenings as well. And a lot of food stalls are here literally. A lot of uh udon noodles, even fried rice. Yeah. Everything like that. And arcade games. Yeah. I like archery and like getting ducks out of the water and stuff like that. So, that seems to be the vibe of this area for sure. And now we’ve stumbled upon Shiten Noi Temple, I believe it’s called, which has this fivetory pagod in the center. And this is one of Japan’s oldest temples. And it was founded in the year 593. It’s also free to enter and walk around the outside of it for sure. And around the outside of the temple itself as well, there’s a lot of different market stalls selling food and also like antique glassware and cookware as well. [Music] And this is like our I don’t know cup of coffee or something today. And we’re basically running off caffeine because we arrived in Osaka this morning at 6:30 a.m. after a night bus, which you can watch our last video to see that experience. But basically, we got very little sleep. So, this is very much needed before we continue exploring. [Music] We are now in the Denden Street which is pretty much very similar to the street in Tokyo, the Akibara street that we were the other day. It also has a lot of electronic shops, a lot of anime and all that kind of stuff. So, let’s explore and show you around. [Music] Like rare flexib, which is what? Which is like €100? It’s 500, I think. 600. 600. Wow. And that’s just at the entrance. I’m sure there’s some more special back. And it’s not just like cool games and like Pokémon cards and things that they have. They also have shops of really, really cool like anime merchandise like tops and key rings and things like that. But we all notice that not all of these game shops along this district are uh not all floors are PG. Let’s just say there’s some other floors, which we were not expecting honestly from uh like anime and game shops. But yeah, seems quite common here. The merch that they’re selling is definitely not cheap. It’s really really nice. But like this shirt here, Suzuka shirt is around €80, which is crazy. That’s so expensive. [Music] And the last stop for our first day here in Osaka is the Namba Yasaka Ginga Shrine. So, this is a really cool 12 m high line headshaped building and legend says that the line swallows evil spirits from its visitors. So, it’s really common for people who want success in exams and business to come to this shrine. It’s actually such a cool shrine. I’ve honestly never seen any like it before. And the origins date back to the 4th century, but it did burn down in a fire. So, it was rebuilt in 1974. And honestly, I think it’s definitely worth visiting. It’s really not far from Dendon Street where we just were. I think about 15minute walk. So, it’s worth it. It’s not too far. [Music] After 20,000 steps, we are finally back in our hotel room, ready to call it a day. So, if you enjoyed the video, please leave a like. It means a lot and we really appreciate it. Don’t forget to subscribe and thanks for watching. See you in the next one. Bye. [Music]

In today’s travel video, we’re spending our first full day in Osaka. After barely sleeping and still feeling a bit tired from the long overnight bus ride, we start off our day in the Shinsekai Street area of Osaka. Shinsekai is known for its street food and vintage stores, and of course for the nearby Tsutenkaku Tower. As we wander through the street, we keep spotting these big baby-like figures everywhere (Billiken figures) and wonder what the meaning is? We’re surprised by how colorful and vibrant Shinsekai is and what else it has to offer: from arcade games to shooting ranges, there’s a lot to discover here.

Next, we explore Denden Town. Although it’s a bit smaller, it’s no less exciting than Akihabara in Tokyo. It’s a dream for anime lovers! From collectible Pokémon cards to cool Naruto, Dragon Ball or One Piece figures and merch you’ll find it all.

Later, we visit Japan’s oldest temple “Shitennoji Temple” which was originally built in the year 593. We also stop by the quirky “Namba Yasaka Jinja Shrine” and explain the story behind its 12 meter tall lion head.

All that and much more in today’s video. So make sure to watch until the end so you don’t miss anything!
