And it’s just gone half past 4 in the afternoon and we are here on holiday the week here in Scotland. More girl with June let me tell you. Anyway, that was lovely riding in Sir Nel Gra and all Scotland’s doing as well. But how did we get to Edinburgh this morning? Well, today well let’s move around the clock. Well, look everybody, here we are. Welcome to Seats and Sands. It’s 17:41 in the evening. Let’s have a look. I think Haven’s video have done it. For those who didn’t know, I do work for Haven Holidays now. have done so for uh for the last uh well 19 months now and I love it. I’ve got two jobs now. Anyway, let’s have a look around. They gave me a massive free bedroom. Um but yeah, sorry about the massage style unpacking. Uh but yeah, we got decent size lounge there. Kitchen area is really really clean. Um as always, also the air fresh is fantastically clean. Yeah, I got a little pull out fridge there and freezer compartment. Uh but yeah, this is the standard uh for those you wondering. This is like the standard model. Got a fantastically clean bathroom uh which is absolutely spot. I might open some windows actually just get some ventilation. It’s not cold to be fair. Here’s one of the um kids bedrooms again. Absolutely lovely in there. And here’s the second one. Again, faultless. And of course, this is our this is the room we’re staying in. The king-size room or the queen size. Don’t sound sexist now, but is absolutely stunning. So, yes, this is where we’re staying until Friday. We got very lucky with this one. Um, yeah. So, I’m just going to relax for a little bit. I’m feeling a little bit tired. Um, been up since 5:00 this morning. Um, and yeah, I’m just going to relax for a little bit. I’ll unpack my things and then we shall go do a little bit sightseeing around here. But yeah, I’m looking forward to this week. Right. Well, look, everybody. Um, it’s 2233. I saw it didn’t go out there, but the rain really did pick up. On the plus side, uh the rain has stopped. So anyway, let us conclude our first day in Scotland. Now Jane started this morning across Alaska Beos. So we called it we called the 0648 rather than the 0550 transm service uh which was running from scar to Manchester Victoria. Uh first one of the day um and sail to summertime changes will bring some more exciting changes coming up. Um they’re from York. We had a good hour and a bit to kill there, but we had the first class treatment because we called the 9005 and the Zuma service on the shuttle between York and Newcastle. Fully enjoyable journey. Now I must apologize because my GoPro was really really playing up and I I just don’t know what’s going on with it. Uh but the second time it’s out corrupted well was paying says repairing files so not just a memory card or I just don’t know but we do have a plan B because before this holiday I actually made two investments cuz we bought Okay, bear with me. You ready for this? We bought these Yep. Um, we’ve got two action cams. I bought these two together. These are the Aasaur Brave 7 action cams, which have been highly recommended and certainly a competitor compared to the GoPro. So, yeah, we will put these to the to the test and see how they perform, but these are highly recommended. Um, yeah. Anyway, let’s put this away. Then from Newcastle when they called the 1043 um Eduma to Edmund Wavely. Um nice change there. I will say the train was not exactly busy. It was only about half full. I will be honest. S that in a minute. Yeah, the trail was about half full, which was a very big surprise. Not as full as I thought it would be. Anyway, we got lucky. We go to Edinburgh Wavely because we saw a lovely surprise. I did not expect this when it go for Safos tours. Yes, Sir Nigel Gresley we saw at Edible Raven. So, we got that timing spot on really with locomotive services um in this new um class 57 liveway uh which looks outstanding. Uh yeah, that was the only But yeah, we got a spawn spine. We’ve had a great hour saw. We got the iconic HSTs which they are on both time now because they were like phased out. You could just see a plane in the background and that’s because we’re not too far away from Edinburgh airport. That’s why you hear in planes. Anyway, um yeah, then we went off and went shopping the course. Uh then we did a little bit sightseeing, did like a mini sightseeing trip um around which was really really nice. We’ll definitely go sightseeing again because there’s a lot to see and do in Scotland, particularly Edinburgh itself. Um yeah and then we caught the loan training service which also B5 Gemini 3 compared to cosigner. Yeah, they’re both just as good. Anyway, it’s a very frequent service. The bus every 10 to 12 minutes and there’s a train line not to from here as well. So, we may look have a look into that. See how far that is. Um, yeah. And then we just go here. We chilled out. And then we just chilled out. Like, so I didn’t go out, but the wind really did pick up. I didn’t fancy blowing away. And yeah, tomorrow uh we’re going to plan to visit the fourth rail bridge, uh, which is defin my bucket list for some time. I really want to go. Um anyway, that does conclude day one. Filmed on 15/09/2025. So, this is it the start of what is quite the weeks holiday in the land of the brave for Scotland in a 5 part special. For day one, we focus in the city of Edinburgh.
Starting the journey at Scarborough, we catch the 06:48 Transpennine Express service which runs through to Manchester Victoria (rode as far as York) Then from York with a good hour or so to relax, we catch the 09:05 LNER Azuma shuttle service to Newcastle. From Newcastle, we then catch the 10:43 LNER Azuma service to Edinburgh.
At Edinburgh Waverley, we had a lovely surprise of LNER Class A4 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley which was running a charter from Chester. Sir Nigel Gresley took over the tour from Carlisle. The second surprise was seeing The Royal Scotsman which was running its special tour across Scotland. Of what is one of the most expensive trains in the UK.
After a good hours spotting, we did a little sightseeing trip overlooking Princess Street Gardens of a little trailer of what is to come for this holiday. We then caught Lothian Buses service 26 to our base for the week at Seaton Sands which is on its way to North Berwick.
