Following the massive success of the Grand Sumo Tournament, which took place in London for the first time in 34 years last week, it was announced today that ‘Tokyo Nights’, a very special theatrical evening of watching Sumo, eating Sushi and drinking Sake, is coming to London for the very first time in June 2026. Taking place at Borough Hall in Greenwich, this rare opportunity to immerse in a theatrical interpretation of the rites and rituals of the art of Sumo will begin on 6 June 2026. Tickets available from just £70 will be released in phases, visit www.tokyonights.net to sign up and not miss out.
‘Tokyo Nights’ is an absolute first for London, bringing the excitement and rarity of Sumo wrestling together with sushi dining experiences and an exploration of sake in a specially designed world inspired by the streets of Tokyo. Part sporting spectacle, part theatre, part interactive food and drink event, the experience will have the Dohyō (the ring) central to the action.
Brought to London by a specially curated team behind events including the acclaimed Grand Expedition, Chambers of Flavour, Secret Cinema and experiences on the Orient Express and at Soho House, ‘Tokyo Nights’ will be a unique fusion of the traditional artform of Sumo wrestling featuring four former professional wrestlers, premium dining and drinking all enveloped in surroundings inspired by the streets of Tokyo.
Bringing the feeling, emotion and sounds of the streets of Tokyo to Borough Hall in Greenwich is the Tokyo based London born artist David Sharibani (aka Lord K2). His exploration of parallels between urban rebellion and the disciplines of eastern martial traditions gave him rare behind the scenes access to sumo stables and even rarer access to the Kokugikan and he brings this special knowledge and vision to ‘Tokyo Nights’ for the most authentic experience.
David Sharibani said: “Tokyo and London are both cultural powerhouses—different in character but alike in creative spirit. The two cities have long respected and inspired each other, and transporting Sumo to London continues that dialogue. Years ago, Sumo captured the British imagination when it aired on Channel 4 and became a cult classic. Now we have the chance to relive that excitement—this time over dinner at Tokyo Nights, with the grit, ritual, and flavour of the Kokugikan itself.”
Visitors to ‘Tokyo Nights’ will be able to dine the way they want to, with premium menu and Dohyo-side seating or more relaxed balcony views available, everything will be topped off with Sake experiences and cocktails.
‘Tokyo Nights’ will be a unique experience not to be missed beginning on 6 June 2026.
