Crazy cool places in Japan! Zwinger Palace replica!

The Arita Porcelain Park was created to celebrate the 400-year-old history of the Japanese porcelain industry that began in the town of Arita. The park’s centerpiece is a fullscale replica of the Zwinga Palace in Dresden, Germany, highlighting the historical artistic exchanges between Japan and Europe.

Saga Prefecture brings an epic finish. In this episode of Project 47 — my solo motorcycle ride across all 47 prefectures of Japan — I explore Saga’s wild roads, surreal landmarks, and sacred ocean shrines.

The day begins with endless switchbacks and mountain views before reaching the eccentric Arita Porcelain Park, a replica of Germany’s Zwinger Palace built in rural Kyushu. From there, I ride to Yutoku Inari Shrine, climbing its maze of vermilion gates in brutal summer heat, before ending the day at the legendary Ouo Shrine, where giant torii gates rise from the sea.
