Japan: the Gestut Etzean stallion was responsible for the top lot on Saturday | Gestut Etzean

The BBAG October Sale concluded in Germany on Saturday, with lot 294, a Japan colt already named Pace, topping the session when going the way of owner Ahmad Al Shaikh for €43,000.

Consigned by Gestut Etzean, Pace is out of the Maxios mare Pray, who is the dam of two winners from as many runners to date. Pray, in turn, is out of the Listed winner and multiple Group-placed Paraisa (Red Ransom), a half-sister to the G1 Premio Roma scorer Potemkin (New Approach) and G2 Oettingen Rennen hero Penalty (Frankel). Pace was one of two purchases at the sale for Al Shaikh, who has enjoyed success as an owner in Britain with the likes of Dubai Mile, Hoo Ya Mal and Khalifa Sat.

The pick of the other yearlings offered on Saturday was lot 180, an Isfahan colt already named Nearest Fan from the Gestut Wittekindshof draft. Bought by Laetitia Domenig for €40,000, he is out of a winning half-sister to the G3 Deutsches St Leger heroine Near England (Lord Of England).

Of the 287 lots offered, 203 sold (71%) for an aggregate sum of €2,164,500 (-4%). The average was €10,663 (-2%) and the median was €10,716 (-2%).
