A new, large-scale tourism campaign has been announced, which will allow visitors to enjoy the world of the popular anime and manga series, Golden Kamuy, while exploring its real-world setting of Hokkaido.
The new campaign, “Let’s Enjoy Golden Kamuy and Hokkaido! supported by Upopoy,” is a multi-faceted event that will run for several months.
Golden Kamuy, created by Satoru Noda, is a historical adventure series that is deeply intertwined with the history, culture, and geography of Hokkaido and the indigenous Ainu people.
A key part of the new campaign is the “Go North! Stamp Rally,” a digital stamp rally that will take place across ten different areas of Hokkaido, including Sapporo, Otaru, Abashiri, and Hakodate.
By finding special posters and scanning a QR code, participants can receive a variety of digital “rewards,” including a chance to win local gourmet food and listen to newly recorded character voice lines.
A traveling, gold-wrapped “Golden Wagon” will also appear at various locations, where fans can enter a lottery to win an exclusive butter cookie featuring characters from “Golden Kamuy”.
A significant portion of the campaign will be centered on the “Upopoy” National Ainu Museum and Park in Shiraoi, Hokkaido.
Upopoy is a national center for the revival and promotion of the culture of the Ainu, the indigenous people of northern Japan.
The park, which opened in 2020, consists of the National Ainu Museum, an experiential field museum, and a memorial facility, all located on the shores of Lake Poroto.
This location is a particularly fitting partner for the campaign, as Ainu culture is a central and respectfully depicted element of the Golden Kamuy story.
The park will host a variety of exclusive content, including a treasure hunt, a “Golden Kitchen Car” selling a special collaboration menu, and newly recorded character announcements that will play at the various Ainu cultural experience corners.
The “Let’s Enjoy Golden Kamuy and Hokkaido!” campaign is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, the 2nd of September, 2025, and will run until Friday, the 27th of February, 2026.
