Osaka’s Kitchen – A Walking Tour of Kuromon Market!
Hi everyone, this is Taste and See with Ken Sabalza. And in this video, we’ll walk around the busiest and most colorful market here in Osaka. So come and join me as we explore Kuramon Market. We’re now approaching Kuramong, which is the famous market here in Osaka, where you can find a lot of fresh seafood. Uh, a bunch of snacks, a bunch of food vendors. So, we’re going to go ahead and check it out here after we cross the street. Here we go. So, let’s take a look at what people are selling at the moment. So, we have a bunch of different desserts. Wow. Sliced fruit. So, they have sashimi sets. already prepared. 500 yen. Wow. And souvenirs. We got melon. 300 yen. That’s roughly about two bucks. [Music] Wow. Look at that. Got some Mio Coobe beef. That must be amazing. So we have bi noodle 1500 puramong noodle squid pancakes. So this place is busy. [Applause] You have some tuna sashimi [Music] and then you have uni which is sea urchin. I’m going to have to try some of this later. Holy moly, look at that. What they have on display. So, they have a stall there for crab. And then here’s more of a quick snack stall here. So you can either go left or right. Pretty much this whole entire area is Kuramong. And again there are many different stalls to choose from. And they have fresh fish, sashimi, uh fresh tuna. They also have uh takoyaki and okonomiyaki, which is the Japanese omelette, as well as I saw some king crab legs over there. Wow. The meat already in the skewers. So you have eel. [Music] Oh wow, look at this tempura. Oh my gosh, look at this. You have eel. You have scallop sushi with salmon roll fatty tuna. And then you have oonie. And you have king crab or crab legs. Holy moly. Look at that. We’re going to have to grab something here. More taky here on this right side. [Music] [Music] Big old tuna head. [Music] Oh my. Look at that sashimi set. [Music] Oh wow. Eat inside. Okay. And they said, “I think I will. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] So, we have a supermarket here. Oh, I remember this place at the supermarket. fresh fruit and veggies. And it’s just interesting seeing the prices here in Japan and the way they package things. Take a look at the tomatoes. I mean, you almost don’t want to eat it because it looks so beautiful. So, the tomatoes, the pack is 7 uh 3.98. So, that’s I would say uh about $3.25 25 cents or almost three bucks for that pack. [Music] Oops. We got a traffic jam. Oh, wow. Look at these strawberries. [Music] So pretty. [Music] This pack of strawberries go. [Music] So we have coo beef. Wow, look at the seafood. This is most likely fresh out of the water because Osaka is close to the water. That’s the crab. Wow, look at this eel. That’s huge. Holy moly. Look, you choose your items and they barbecue it right in front of you. Right there. [Music] Rock oyster. Scallop skewers. Extra-L large shrimp. Wow. [Applause] Wow. Look at that crab. Not bad. Holy moly. [Music] Oh my gosh. Amazing. Grilled meat bowl. Roast beef bowl. Like these skewers. My goodness, this place. Oh, tempura. [Music] Wow. Fresh tempura. Okay. I don’t know if I’m going to be leaving Osaka today cuz I’m going to be hanging out here in the in the market and next thing you know, oh, I’m supposed to be going to Kyoto, but I’m still here. Holy moly. It’s cool because here you can pick and choose what items you want and they can go ahead and cook it for you. And they have an area where you can have a seat and uh finish or enjoy and finish your meal. So that’s really cool. You don’t have to find a spot to enjoy your freshly cooked items. And then wow. I mean, look at all that quality meat. Incredible. $15. [Music] Oh, wow. Look at that. Oonie sea urchin. And then set meals here. Yeah, this place is overwhelmingly awesome. Oh, Spider-Man. [Music] Oh, wow. Look at this. coffee. And oh wow, look at this Pikachu Pokemon Tokyo banana snack. Wow, look at this chips. Wow, that’s amazing. Ichigo strawberries. That’s delicious. Wow. Melon. Amazing. And so they already have some prepared food here. Wow. Quite overwhelming. with cheese free. Okay, that lobster. [Music] Oh, wow. Look, they’re making okanomiyaki, which is the Japanese omelette. Delicious. [Music] [Applause] [Music] My brother did this for me, though. Wow. Oh, yeah. You have the floating ramen, floating bowl of udon. [Applause] And pretty cool, they have a family mark here. Open for 24 hours. Oh wow. Let’s explore this mini food court. [Music] [Applause] Wow. My favorite. Holy moly. Rice bowl. Japanese comfort food. [Music] Wow. 100% coobe beef burgers. Oh, they already have things prepared here. in the bathroom. I try not to fall apart ramen. [Music] You just have to watch your step because the floor is not flat. [Music] Deal on rice. My word. [Music] Yoza of thunder god. Wow. Look that yoza. [Music] Okay, I’m going to order the salmon iura and egg rice bowl. Let’s see this. All right. Yanking there. Oh, my turn. [Applause] [Music] Okay, here’s our food. Oh, wow. Here it is. So, we have fresh salmon, salmon row, and an omelette at the bottom with uh rice. So, it’s all on top of rice. All right. So, for our lunch, we have our salmon bowl with a salmon row and the omelette here. And so, let’s try it out. Let’s grab some chopsticks. Okay. So, let’s try out the tamago, which is the um salmon row. Sorry, I tamago is the omelette. So, let’s try out the ikura. And this is one of my favorites again. And let’s try it here in Osaka. Let’s see how fresh it is. Here we go. There’s a slight firmness to it initially and then when you bite into it, it pops and it’s not smooshy which is good and you could really taste the freshness. [Music] Now, now we have the salmon right here. And fresh salmon. Let’s try it out. Here we go. No soy sauce, no nothing. That’s fresh. Add some rice to it. So, they call this Japanese comfort food. comfort because it’s it fills you up and it’s simple. Nothing too fancy. It’s just a bowl of rice, slices of fish, some salmon, eggs, and an omelette. So, comfort food. Basically, it fills you up. It comforts you in a way that it it’s tasty but not overwhelmingly taste um not overwhelming because it focuses more on the natural flavors rather than trying to mask up any flavors with extra sauces or marinades or ingredients. So, this is excellent. Have some of the egg right here. [Music] Yeah, overall excellent. And this is a great way to spend your time here in Kuramon in Osaka by trying out the fresh seafood. In this case, it’s a salmon with salmon row and an omelette rice bowl. Something I forgot to mention about the rice bowl. This back in the states would cost maybe around like 25 bucks, $25 US, but here in Japan it was uh 2500 yen, 2,500 yen. And then that’s about uh $17.50 [Music] based on the conversion. So yeah, you’re saving a lot of money. you’re saving almost maybe eight bucks. And also here you don’t have to tip. You don’t have to add extra. So back home if this bowl was about 25 bucks and then you ended up tipping an extra three bucks. This bowl would be around maybe $28 or so with tax and all that stuff. But uh yeah, here tipping isn’t really a a a thing and that’s very nice because what you see in terms of price is what you pay for. So there’s really no hidden costs in a way. So yeah, this is a this is a a good deal especially with this type of quality fish and uh fish eggs. So yeah, definitely happy with it. I just have to say thank you to them for a wonderful rice bowl. Okay, we’re back. Let’s get some tuna and Yeah. King crab legs. [Music] Wow, that was really filling. Fried udon. Wow. Wow. [Music] Oh yeah, big old tuna head. Look, he’s just splitting open that crab. a crab leg. Oh wow, look the octopus. So that pretty much is a brief walk through of Kuramong here in Osaka. And there are plenty of things to enjoy here. whether it’s seafood or the wagyu or the desserts, pretty much a bunch of stuff, the tempura. So, if you’re ever here in Osaka, definitely check out Kuramon so that you can get a chance to try out a lot of the items that they have and enjoy the delicious cuisine here in Japan.
