Softbank pitcher Naoyuki Uwasawa (31) was fired up to pitch against his former team, Nippon-Nippon-Ham Fighters, for the first time in about five and a half months on the 13th. He participated in Mizuho PayPay’s pitcher practice and prepared to start in the third game of the final stage of the CS on the 17th. “There are many teammates I used to play with, so I’m personally looking forward to playing against them,” he said, looking straight ahead.
He transferred to the US baseball league through the posting system in January 2012, but failed to produce results, and signed a four-year contract with The Hawks in December of last year. His only appearance on the mound was against the Nippon-Ham Fighters on May 1st, when he gave up three runs in seven innings at home. “I really wanted to pitch,” he said, expressing his desire to pitch in a battle for the top spot, but the opportunity for revenge never came.
Since August, he has been in good form, winning six straight games and tying his career high with 12 wins. Initially, he was ranked behind the three main players on the team, Moinelo, Arihara, and Ozeki, but he has now become one of the four main players. He hopes to prove his strength on mound against his former team for the first time in 169 days. (Shimao Koichiro)
