MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – The Marquette Area Sister Cities Partnership (MASCP) delegation brought a gift back from Higashiomi, Japan.

The seven-person delegation spent 11 days in the Japanese Sister City from July 23rd through August 4th.

The City of Marquette was gifted a piece of American denim with the words ‘Marquette, Higashiomi’ and ‘Sister City’ stitched on to it. The gift was presented at the Marquette City Commission meeting Tuesday.

Delegation leader Bill Brazier says the partnership represents international friendship.

“We have, up to date, over 4,000 individuals touched by the program, whether they’re host families, delegates, hosts,” said Brazier.

Meanwhile, Kazuki Sawa, the MASCP Scholarship Student is enjoying his time studying at Northern Michigan University.

“I’ve noticed the cultural difference with people interactions,” said Sawa. “People are very friendly and (open-minded). I like that. I like that.”

The gift will hang in the Peter White Public Library Sister Cities room.
