TOKYO – Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu said Japan will be out to get their first win over a record five-time World Cup champions Brazil in a home friendly in Tokyo on Tuesday.

The 19th-ranked Samurai Blue, who drew 2-2 on Friday against Paraguay in Osaka Prefecture, are without a win in three matches after a 0-0 draw with Mexico and a 2-0 loss against another 2026 World Cup hosts in September away from home.

“We have the desire to get our first win against Brazil, and we also have the players to do that,” Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu told Monday’s press conference as they look to end their barren run against the South Americans that stands at 11 defeats and two draws.

His Italian counterpart Carlo Ancelotti, a record five-time European Champions League winner as manager, has steadied Brazil since taking over as their manager in June and oozed confidence.

“Competition is very important. We’ll gradually try things out with our team toward the World Cup,” Ancelotti said.

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who won the Olympic gold with his country in Tokyo in 2021, said he will look to help his country’s “unbeaten streak continue” against Japan.
