This week’s video comes from Japan where eVTOL company SkyDrive has completed a series of demonstration flights before the public.
Between July 31 and August 24, flights operating from Osaka’s Expo Vertiport attracted visitors from across Japan and abroad, an outcome the company says helped strengthen SkyDrive’s global visibility in the eVTOL sector.
The second series of flights at the Osakako Vertiport, a take-off and landing facility developed for eVTOL aircraft by Osaka Metro Co., Ltd, brought the SKYDRIVE into an urban setting for the first time, allowing local residents to see the aircraft up close in a neighbourhood scheduled to host future eVTOL routes. SkyDrive said the positive public response at both locations highlights growing anticipation over the upcoming urban air transport revolution.
The company added that by demonstrating the SD-05 aircraft in two distinct environments — one a global event space and the other a residential area — SkyDrive believes it ‘made significant strides toward building public acceptance of eVTOL technology’.
As of September 2025, SkyDrive’s campaign is the most extensive development and testing program conducted by an eVTOL company in an urban setting.
SkyDrive has been working with civil aviation authorities in Japan and the US to obtain certification for SKYDRIVE and aims to launch the service in 2028.
