Japan Apr 2025 Ep: 15 Hakodate 4K

Episode 15 finds us in Hakodate. This super short episode takes place right in the cruise port at the Hakodate Morning Market. Unlike the other sleepier ports of Japan, the Morning Market was packed full of early risers and ready for business. With over 300 vendors, covering 4 city blocks, this is not your average fish market. Our favorite find? The white Strawberries, called Snow Berries. Good morning from Hakodate. On the island of Hokkaido. It’s chilly here in the north. It’s warm but windy. So, you’re warmish-coldish. Yup. Off to go wander the town. No bus today. Town is pretty close. Like, right across the street. So, I don’t have a face. Well, you keep walking around. *Laughing So, yep, filming with short people, is really hard. *Laughing Especially ones with A.D.D. who bounce around all over the place. *Laughing Whatever. Okay, I guess she’s just a soundtrack. Alright, we’ll check back in. Odds are no stores are open. I’m sure it’s like every other place in Japan, everybody’s still sleeping. Morning Market. Probably a lot more fish. We are in a coastal town. FIsh Sauce. For all your dry fish needs. Squid fishing! *Laughing. A lady just got squirted. Like I thought, a lot more fish. Some other stuff too but, it’s a big fish market. White strawberries. *Background shouting in Japanese Not sure what the difference is, other than the price. 3800 yen. 1500 Yen. I’m sure there’s a reason they’re twice as expensive. I bet they’re probably twice as good. Might need to try ‘em. 3800 yen is… Not cheap. But, typically you get what you pay for and if you pay a lot, you might get a lot so, we’ll see. Are they like, more sweet, or? *Speaking Japanese Ah. *Japanese referencing Hokkaido. *Japanese referencing Hokkaido. Snow Berries. Ahh. It’s a different kind. Hokkaido, Hakodate. Ahhh. Regional. Snow Berry. We have to try. Okay. *Japanese Okay? Yes. Yes. *Japanese Okay. Oh. *Japanese. *Japanese Okay? Thank you. Arigato gozaimas. Alright, let’s find hole. Okay. Okay. We found a little platform. We even have little chains. We’re a new exhibit. The new exhibit. Come see the foreigners try Snow Berries. 100 Yen only. *Laughing Snow Berry. Snow berry. I hope it’s good. I’m a little nervous ‘cause I don’t usually like new things. *Background vendor shouting in Japanese It’s not as good as a regular strawberry. Tastes like snow. No flavor. *Laughing. No, I actually like it. The texture is quite soft. Mmm. But yes, it is definitely not a regular strawberry. Mmmm. There’s so much juice. Definitely juicy. The one down side to buying anything food related. The trash. The trash. Joel and Emilia and Kara and Nate they’ve all taken to carrying trash bags in their bags. We keep forgetting to bring one. I think we may need to remember to do that. We’ve, we’ve remembered like twice. It’s a serious thing. Shyla has been doused in BBQ sauce. I’ve gotten Orange Juice all over my stuff. *Gasp She’s a bloom in genius.
Oh Ha ha ha. Shyla learned from her BBQ incident. Trash bags. Perfect. Good thinkin’. Savin’ the day. Whether it’s a med kit or a trash bag, Shyla is pretty handy to have around. *Laughing So is Carlia. They got these Mary Poppins bags that stuff falls out of. Have a little bit of everything in there. Alright, Aiyana. It hasn’t been easy to find the little things you requested but we just found some in the little machine. *Gasp It’s so little and cute. Alright, we gotcha one. Hope you like it. Left Morning Market. We are headed towards some shopping malls, it looks like. So… More discovering. More adventures We’re so far north right now that these haven’t even bloomed yet. But when they do…. They’ll look like this. It’s windy. It’s early spring. And the Cherry Blossoms haven’t even bloomed yet. Crazay. What do you know, I came around the corner and there’s some bloomed blossoms. Cable cars. Coffee Shop Machine. I want…. Cafe Latte. Cafe Latte? Right here. Cafe Latte. *Gasp Caramel Machiatto!? Never mind. Changed my mind. Alright. First put the money in. That wasn’t up there. And then you…
Oh yeah it was. Caramel Machiatto. Ice or hot? Uh, hot. It’s a cold day. Hot. Regular or large? I’ll get you a large it you want. Make it a large. Extra coffee? Sure. I could add an extra 10 for caramel or cocoa. Caramel. Okay. Are you done? Yep. Order me up. It’s gonna light up. Ooh! It’s gonna grind the beans first? There’s the timer. Where’s yours? I drank it. Whoa. Mine was iced. *Gasp And then, the lid’s right there. For the large. Don’t get a small lid. Oh my goodness. That was fun. Iced. Extra. So cute. And then it closes itself. It’ll close. It, It’ll close? Yeah it’ll close by itself. Okay. Thank you. It just takes a couple That was a large? Yes, this is large.
Okay. Thank you. Decided, I could not do the corn chowder. Corn soup, I guess. No. Been a lot of port days. A lot of get up and go. Good ol’ Red bull energy. I know its not healthy for you. This isn’t a health food channel. Even though, Aleta would probably like it to be. Red Bull. Gives you wings. Or at least stops you from falling down. Very popular. Are you getting a lotion? I was debating it. *Background vendor shouting in Japanese Let me smell yours. Mmmm. I do, I do really like the smell.
Mmhhmm. Very yummy. I have been needing a new lotion. 1,000 Yen. I can do that. Ok, we’re done. We’re so done. It’s so windy and you can only walk through fish market so many times. When you’re not here to buy fish. So, we’re getting back on the ship. We’re going to go have a Lido lunch. I’m always convinced I didn’t film enough and this time I definitely didn’t. Ahh. After an early morning and enduring the cold and wind, we spent the rest of the day napping. Appetizers. I’ve got the asparagus and artichokes. Shrimp. Shrimp. Classic Caesar Salad. What did we order? I’m pretty sure it’s a Beef tenderloin. Beef tenderloin and Shrimp. Mine’s a Gluten free shrimp. These 2 though, they got the regular. Steak and fries. They made us 2 desserts. Tiramisu, and a gluten free chocolate cake. Maybe they didn’t know what we liked but, we got 2. Oh yeah. I don’t know what those guys got. Nothin’! Just kidding they got dessert. Thomas got the Date Pudding. Why does it look like a cake? And, Shyla got the Sundae. The next time you see us, we’ll be in the beautiful Miyako. See you there!
